    $724 for TPMS sensor?

I bought some "pre-programmed" sensors on amazon , and took them to Skip's Tires. They told me $20 per tire to install them, and they could probably figure out which sensor was failing. I got a call later. The left rear sensor battery was dead, but the other 3 sensors were good. They also said...

    $724 for TPMS sensor?

To answer your question: I was expecting to be told that the right rear sensor needs a new battery, so it's $5 in parts + $70 labor. or maybe I was thinking it would be a replacement of a sensor for like $140 total. I wasn't expecting they'd need to replace all 4 sensors: surely they didn't...

    $724 for TPMS sensor?

I wasn't sure if I should replace the rear tires. They have like 20% of their tread left, and tires are $500 each (before tax and installation). Two tires is a noticeable %age of the car's $14k blue book value, and it's unclear how much a potential buyer will value new tires.

    $724 for TPMS sensor?

It seems like the best plan is to buy 4 new sensors, and replace them when I replace the tires. The issue I have now is that my 2023 Model X just got delivered, and now I want to sell the Model S. My rear tires only have a few thousand miles left on them before they need to be replaced, but...

    Delivery tomorrow

Yesterday, I did get an email for a credit toward a wall charger. seemed a little tight to try to schedule something. Thanks for mentioning the trailer hitch attachment. Yes, it was in the frunk, along with an adaptor for J1772. That's nice. Thanks, Derek

    Delivery tomorrow

Car is here! Delivered at 6 pm for a 12-4 delivery window, but it's here. Person delivering it pretty much dropped it off and left. She told me to tap the key icon in the app, and that was about it. Now I need to figure out how to use the new car. I'm pretty lost in it. Some questions...

    Delivery tomorrow

The queue seems a lot shorter today than when I ordered a year ago, but I don't think I have the patience to wait several more months. I guess whenever you get a car, there's always the next feature that is just about to come out that your car doesn't have. Sounds like it's time for me to...

    Delivery tomorrow

I just found out today that my Model X is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. This was pretty sudden for me, and I'm not super-prepared. One question I have: Is there any hardware that is coming soon? like will cars produced next month have different autopilot cameras/sensors than this one...

    $724 for TPMS sensor?

A new controller board was not in the quote; it was just the 4 sensors + installation. So I can buy 4 Huf sensors on the Internet, take them to any tire shop, and they can replace the old 2012 ones? I'm glad to be driving my car again after a week of Uber and borrowing my mother-in-law's car...

    $724 for TPMS sensor?

I dropped off my 2012 Model S for service early Thursday morning with my car reporting a TPMS sensor issue. They guessed they'd be done same day. I've messaged them every day asking if I can pick up my car today. They reply things like "they are diagnosing it deeper" and they'll message back...

    Nuclear power

I started reading this thread in 2013. nwdiver was saying that nuclear was too expensive, and other renewables (e.g. photovoltaics) were cheaper. 8 years later, PV costs and battery costs are significantly lower. Nuclear costs are ... not. So, how is this still a thread? Why do some...

    Service messenger keyboard issue

I did the "chat with us" yes, and I used to be able to just email service advisors. I just used the "chat with us" box that you suggested, and the person was able to relay a message to my service team. So, I guess that's what I'll do from now on: I'll use the chat with us feature, and ask...

    Service messenger keyboard issue

I have the same problem. went searching for a solution, and found this thread, but no solution. In related news, I hate that I need to use my phone's app to schedule service and communicate with service. Why can't I use a PC with the big screen and real keyboard?

    Struggling computer

I understand that it's dying, but Tesla says "there is nothing further that we can do in the service center regarding the MCU at this time." My car now has 100,000 miles on it, and I think my ESA is only good until 100k, right? (I made the repair request at 99,500 miles). They asked for...

    Struggling computer

The computer in my 2012 Model S has been struggling more and more. Voice control frequently doesn't work. The central screen is rebooting several times a week, sometimes several times in a row. Web browser pretty much never works. The struggles have been slowly increasing over the last...

Slacker no longer playing requested songs

I guess this has happened to others before, but somehow it just changed for my a week ago. I used to get the song I requested about 75% of the time (assuming I hadn't listened to it for a couple days). Now it's 0% of the time. Is this expected? Was I simply lucky that this didn't happen to...

    Computer too slow

That might have worked. I spent my commute home yesterday swiping to remove item after item after item. It's pretty quick to remove any one item, but I had around 1000 items to remove. After doing that, the web browser was still not working. I rebooted the main screen, and heh, things are...

    Computer too slow

My 2012 Model S is becoming increasingly annoying to use. The web browser generally will no longer load anything at all. About half the time the voice command functionality fails to hear anything I say. Songs on USB sticks (!) or Slacker often get "loading error"s. Sometimes rebooting the...

Should I get a new Tesla?

Not really sure where to post this… I’m wondering if I should get a new car, and if so, which one. Here’s what I don’t like about my 2012 P85: 1) The CPU is painfully slow. Voice recognition often fails to bother to record what I’m saying. Web browser is essentially worthless. Even...

    Nuclear power

SalisburySam, your concerns are for nuclear fission. My nuclear fusion idea is only 10 years out from commercialization and completely solves all of the issues you suggest. My idea also produces no dangerous radioactivity. I just need 1 billion investors to send me $1 million each. but I'll...

Yes, that worked for me. Thanks! I had previously been listening to a podcast (with all of its own issues), and tried to go straight to Slacker. No Results Found. Switched to listening to some random Slacker station, and did the same search. Success. I wish 3rd parties could write their own...

    Slacker: No results found

Within the last few days, lots of things that used to work on Slacker now return a "No Results Found". Slacker will play some things for me, but the list of songs it knows seems like it's under 5% of what it was last week. Any ideas what happened, and how to get it back to where it was...

    Multiple small things

Yeah, that happens to me sometimes. Seems to me like it happens when the processor is burdened with something else. I generally reboot everything: push in both wheels for a few seconds until one screen restarts, then push down the top button for a few seconds until the other screen restarts.
  32. D

    Multiple small things

How do you define not working? If it accurately recognizes what you ask for but plays something different, yeah, that's Slacker. Over 80% of songs will play on your first try if you haven't tried that song in the last week. There are a few artists (Metallica) that seem less likely to work than...

    Nuclear power

link from nbcnews.com regarding thorium: Have physicists found the key to safer nuclear power? My favorite quote: "More than 45 years later, thorium-based nuclear fission is still as promising as ever." Um, they do realize that that's a condemnation, not an endorsement, don't they?

Tesla owners: How strong is regenerative braking?

Try it; it's really much less dramatic than you might expect. Seems like less braking power than regen. It's certainly not like your car will suddenly be full braking; it's a very mild deceleration.
  35. D

Tesla owners: How strong is regenerative braking?

Can you explain this use case? If there's a red light in front of you, in a Tesla, you pull your foot off the pedals, and you usually get about as much energy as you can back into the battery. It's unclear to me how a lack of regen would help. If you're on the freeway, and you go down a...

Renewable Energy Storage -- What's Real?

    What's In Your Best Interest?

Not for anyone? Just as it's not economical for EVERYone, I'm not sure you can say that it's not economical for ANYone. My marginal electric rate would be $0.40/kWh without solar. Could that change tomorrow to be $0.11/kWh? I suppose, but will it happen? absolutely not. The rate has been...

    Nuclear power

but there are CO2 emissions. not from the wind farm, but from the natural gas plant down the road. Energy generation and energy usage are rather independent activities. My solar cells don't power my car: my solar cells power the grid, and the grid powers my car. My solar cells have more...

    Nuclear power

They're still quite different. Using electricity to electrolyze water while the power plant down the street is burning natural gas is insanely inefficient. I shake my head whenever some enviro-nut tries to do this. Put your clean electricity on the grid while you steam reform methane, and...

    Nuclear power

Somewhat disagree. Fuel cell vehicles are uniquely bad in that even if you could make them cheap and safe, their CO2 emissions would be comparable to a Prius, their performance would be comparable to a Prius, but their fueling convenience would be much worse than a Prius. If you could make...

    USB Album issue

I bet there are a lot of people who would be willing to write something for free which is a lot better than what Tesla does. If Tesla had put a little effort into allowing 3rd party development for some of the car's nonessential stuff, they wouldn't need to be bothered with fixing a lousy...

I flipped through the USB thread. I get the desire to put everything in one place, but those 40+ page threads get unwieldy quickly. This was something that got broken in the latest software update. It would be nice if Tesla could revert the change that broke this. It would be nicer if Tesla...

Before V2.52.22, I could choose to play an "Album", and it would play the songs in order. Hydrogen vs. Battery

Nah, fuel cells are too expensive for this application. You're going to spend $40k on something that's used for less than 10% of your miles? I mean even if the Hydrogen miles were CO2 free (which I think is crap), you'd be much better off using the Volt gasoline engine and sending a $20k check...

    Hydrogen vs. Battery

Electrolysis of water is a really terrible way to use electricity. If you want to reduce CO2 emissions, you can put solar panels on your house regardless of what vehicle you drive. Solar panels create electricity, and electricity has no knowledge of whether it was created via solar or via coal...

    Hydrogen vs. Battery

I think there are two points that are missing: 1) You note that the Mirai is less efficient than EVs at 90 g/km CO2. To me that's not nearly as powerful as pointing out that it's noticeably worse than the 70 g/km Prius (according to Toyota). The Mirai emits more CO2 than a standard gasoline...
