Model 3 Users - Firmware Bugs & Wish Lists & Undesirables

My requests: 1) Shrink the rear camera window to be strip over the top of the map so we can see both map and camera at the same time. 2) Allow swiping on the speedometer when autopilot is enabled. Right increases speed, left decreases speed. Down increases follow distance. Up decreases follow...

Firmware version 2017.50.10. The car needs to be in Park to enable it.

    Model 3 Tips

How about we have a thread for tips. This is on firmware 2017.50.10: - To avoid unlocking the car every time you come close to it with a phone key (usually in an attached garage), disable Walk-up Unlock under Car settings->Locks->Settings. Car will now only unlock when you pull a door handle...

    Firmware 7.1 - For Classic Model S

Latest 7.1 update over the weekend seems to have added a "dong" sound when the car's doors are locked. It's nice, but it's too similar to the sound the car makes when it fails to lock (like when a door is left ajar).

Supercharger - Fremont, CA - 47400 Kato Rd (not completed, V3 test site Mar 2019)

(Moderator note: this Supercharger location never became operational and the pedestals were removed in Aug 2018, in Mar 2019 four V3 pedestals were activated and it was used as a test site but was not opened to the public) Someone posted on EAASV's Facebook page: William Davis Looks to be...

    14-50 vs HPWC dropping 25%

I had a similar issue with my 14-50. I had the power company (PG&E) investigate and it turned out to be an overloaded neighborhood transformer. Once they upgraded their equipment, my charging has been rock solid ever since.

    PG&E E-9 cancelled

Just a FYI to all PG&E E-9 rate customers. I just noticed PG&E has cancelled the E-9 rate and moved me to the E-6 rate schedule. They supposedly moved everyone on E-9 to either E-1, E-6 or EV based on their last 12 months of bills. I recommend all E-9 customers check their PG&E account to see...

Firmware 6.2 - Navigation for non tech package?

Since they made Nav standard on all new Model S, I think they may be deprecating the Maps app to simplify their firmware development. I'm cautiously optimistic that the next firmware upgrade will replace Maps with Nav.

    Firmware 6.1 - For Classic Model S

I got .140. Music playback seems to be a more stable. Also, I noticed after plugging into work this morning that the charge port light seems to stay on, even after the car is locked. Not sure if this is because I'm using the J-adapter or if it would stay on for all....

    Dirty Butt

I think most of the dust is actually our own tires. Where does all that worn down rubber go? Rubber, being an insulator, is great at holding a static charge, so blazing down the road will build up charge on the bits contacting the road, which will wear off and then get stuck onto the car. The...

Rated range loss after 1 year

bwilliams, a couple things can artificially reduce the estimated range (beyond normal degradation) - an out of balance battery and an uncalibrated SoC estimate. Daily charging to 60% will likely bring your battery out of balance. The going theory in the Decreasing Rated Range thread is that...

    Firmware 6.0

Woohoo! My router noted the car downloaded 620 MB last night so I've finally upgraded from 5.12 to 6.0. Got version 1.67.45, but it seems no different from what everyone else has described.

Anyone notice the new dash is missing the power/regen bar? How can the driver coast?

About time to unveil the D and something else

Hmm, so the Tesla site now advertises the 60 as having a 380 hp motor (equivalent to ~283 kW) - it originally advertised it as 225 kW (or 302 hp). I wonder if that's a typo....

About time to unveil the D and something else

    Decreasing rated range.

My stats: 1 yr 8 months, 60 kWh A pack 90% 176 rated miles, range mode on ver 5.12 I normally charge to 75% until 4 weeks ago when my 90% range fell to 172 miles - changed schedule to doing 90% charges twice a week and have recovered a mile of range each week. Will continue this routine for a...

    Firmware 5.8.6/7/8/9/10

Just got 5.8.10 this morning. Interesting side note - I'm not sure if it all downloaded through wifi or if some of it went through 3G, but my router collects per-IP stats and reports the car downloaded 237 MB. It typically downloads about 200-800 KB a day.

New Rear Liftgate Sunshade on Tesla Store

Picked up a sunshade from my local SC today - I figured I'd try it there and if it didn't work out, I could just return it. It came inside a plastic bag within a zippered storage bag. Took less than minute to install and the fit is surprising secure. The shade also leaves a decent amount of...

Same here. My auto-tilt mirrors stopped working with the 4.5 update. Still not saving with the 5.8 firmware.

Check my math: Electric vs Gas

You need to switch to a time-of-use rate schedule. SCE offers this: https://www.sce.com/NR/sc3/tm2/pdf/CE324.pdf - $0.07 per kWh for night charging (midnight-6am) and daytime rates peak at $0.24 per kWh.

    Firmware 5.8

I'm also in Norcal. When I checked the battery level percentage last night (~50 deg F) and compare to what I see in the morning (~32 deg F), without plugging in my 60 kWh car, the battery only seems to drop 1-2 percent, but rated-miles-wise I'm losing 11 miles of range. I suspect the range...

    Firmware 4.4

I'm seeing the same problem as HansK with auto-tilt mirror functionality disappearring after updating the firmware from 4.2 to 4.4 - this is probably an issue for anyone with cloth seats. Now I'm wishing I had stayed at 4.2.

Tesla Sweet Spot: Most Cost Effective Model Choice

Unless you live on a small island, I would say the Supercharger option is a must. Even if Tesla's Supercharger station plans never get fulfilled, it's probably required to use any other sort of DC charging option (SAE, CHAdeMO). Also, I'm finding the air suspension to be more useful than I...

First Day Thoughts: #1 -- You Don't Need the P85. The 85 is more than Plenty.

I have to say that I find the Slacker streams to be of relatively low quality - likely due to low bitrate samples. The same songs in 192 kbps mp3's just sound a lot better. I actually find the standard Tesla radio to be pretty good, just a bit lacking in deep bass.

I Didn't Get Tech Package - Is There a Turn-by-Turn Workaround with Internet Screen?

+1 for WAZE I love how the WAZE crowd marks speed traps, accidents, and hazards, and the app will bring these up if these are on your route or in your general vicinity. Also, it'll quickly compute the travel times for alternate routes so you can continuously optimize your commute. No built-in...

Real kWh in the "60 kWh" pack

This morning, I charged my 60 kWh car up to 187 rated miles (89.9% of 208). My energy screen on the center console shows the following average numbers: 271 Wh/mi, 213 mi projected range 288 Wh/mi, 201 mi projected range 263 Wh/mi, 220 mi projected range so multiply: 271*213 = 57723 Wh 288*201...

Home Charger Cost Credit is alive and available.

    Real World Range Questions (Winter)

You're right - it's listed on the specs pages. Maybe the smaller capacity cells in the 60 and 40 kWh cars have lower internal resistance? Then they could run to lower charge levels.
  42. M

    Real World Range Questions (Winter)

Another possibility is that the smaller battery cars have taller gearing in their transmissions, essentially trading off some acceleration for better energy efficiency. What would the range of the 85 kWh car be with the transmission of the 40 kWh version?
