Is the Model S a villian now?

The Plaid reminds me of when the Nissan GTR first came out. It blew every other car out of the water and was cheaper still. People hated that, called it a computer on wheels, etc. Other cars have caught up and surpassed the GTR since however it really did rock the boat when it came out. The...

    Opinion requested. P85D

I don't disagree. My statement is that only Tesla knows for sure the failure rate and they're not gonna share anytime soon. What we see out here is all anecdotal to what we see, read, and/or hear. Our own cognitive bias will shift our viewpoint to what suits our situation best. If you've been...

    Opinion requested. P85D

I agree that we've read a lot of horror stories of the HV battery going bad unexpectedly however we only hear it because it's coming as bad news. We never hear about the HV batteries that are still sitting in the older legacy MS cars that are still running with 150k+ mileage. It's called...

    Opinion requested. P85D

I'll say the same thing I said in another thread... Will $7500 buy you another P85D with the same mileage and condition? If yes, then go buy that P85D for $7500... if not, then pay the $7500 and enjoy your newly fixed P85D for perhaps the next 5-6 years again. Many will argue the flawed design...

Road and Track EV Performance Car of the Year

The "Turbo" is a trim level, not necessarily that it's a force-induction vehicle. Kinda like the "EX" in Honda Accord EX. Or the "Plaid" in Tesla Model S Plaid. Porsche could come out with a skateboard and call it the Porsche FlatRider Turbo S. :)

    FUSC / SC01 S-X owners: buy new S-X w/SC01-FUSC & flip...?

I will reiterate, once you transfer your existing FUSC to the brand new car, the FUSC will stay with YOU and the CAR only meaning that if you sell the car, the FUSC will be stripped by Tesla and go bye-bye for everyone thereafter. I almost jumped on this to upgrade to Plaid but when I learned...

    2014 MS P85 parting out?

As I mentioned "holding everything else constant" meaning that the HV battery is still in good condition. We've all read the horror stories of HV batteries going bad at the very worse and unexpected times however nobody has a crystal ball so you can only make choices based on what you know...

    2014 MS P85 parting out?

Here's what you have to ask yourself holding everything else constant: "Would $9k afford me a car that is better than a used 2014 MS P85 with 110k miles in the same condition as yours right now and 100% fully functional?" If the answer is no, then pay the $9k and you have yourself an awesome...

That first wheel design has been done to death by so many various wheel manufacturers... thank you for the second design. It's a breath of fresh air to see something different.

When will Tesla offer a vehicle with a listed range of 500+ miles?

When the demand exceeds any potential supply. I'm going to guess that 90% of EV owners don't need 500+ miles or are willing to pay the premium for it. It doesn't make sense financially. Gotta think about the regular folks. Tesla is not Lamborghini. It will happen when enough people demand it...

    What would you do?

I would drive tires on 4/32nd tread depth indefinitely however with the situation, I'd at least replace both rears with new tires. Might as well go all four corners to be honest if they're all 4/32nd to keep it even. If you can afford a 2022 Plaid, an extra $2k for new tires shouldn't be a big...

Road Hugger GTZ A/S initial impressions

As long as the tire has the correct weight/load rating for your vehicle and tread design for your driving purpose/location, it won't matter most of the time. The average driver on the road is not gonna rip through tires racing from point A to B. If a reputable store like DT carries them, you can...

FUSC transfer till the end of year (2023)

@gillmj24 @NV Ray Thanks for clarifying. Wasn't code SC02 or SC03 like this where the FUSC would remain with the owner for the current car but as soon as the car was sold, the FUSC would go bye-bye for everyone. Tesla is working all the angles to get true-FUSC cars off the roads. So with this...

FUSC transfer till the end of year (2023)

As in the original owner? Meaning it's only good for 1-owner cars? I'm not the first owner of my P85D so I guess I'm outta luck. :(
  15. D

FUSC transfer till the end of year (2023)

Correct me if I'm wrong, I can transfer the FUSC SCO1 from my P85D onto a new Plaid and have a Plaid with FUSC forever? Seriously? Crappy that I would lose USS since you'd have to buy brand new but I could foresee incredible resale value down the road. Imagine a low mileage Plaid with SCO1 FUSC...

Tesla price increase round just started

I think Tesla is testing the waters to see where people's interest are with the S and X. We all know the S and X is nothing compared to the 3 and Y in sales numbers. I'm guessing that at some point in the closer future, the S and X will be parked away for good. Only 3 and Y will remain.

    2018 Tesla question

As I recall, safety issue. The windows do not have pinch sensors therefore going up would mean it would pinch or cause bodily harm. Tesla, nor many other car manufacturers don't like lawsuits.

If you're on facebook: Log into Facebook I've not seen a thread on here for high mileage cars.

    Why Wh/mi?

Then you follow up and say "sometimes I turn off my A/C at home for an hour so I can go joyriding for 24.3 miles and break even". :) Units of measure still net the same output at the end of the day. It's what makes most sense for your target audience. If we lose weight after months of...

Yes we can, it's called the Cybertruck kit. :) I'm sure someone could retrofit an aftermarket kit assuming the car came with coils and not the air suspension.

Pushing the Plaid to its Design Limits?

My personal opinion is that going 0-60 in under 2 seconds will get old fast. The acceleration and torque never gets old though, meaning it's always fun accelerating in and out of driving sessions but flooring it at every stoplight will get old (and dangerous) pretty quick. Not to mention that...

    Supercharging Eligible 2013 Model S

It's very possible you may have found a MS that never had the ability to supercharge. I remember reading somewhere that supercharging was an option when the MS first came out. Some buyers may have opted out of paying $2k for that option. At some point earlier on, supercharging was added as...

OTA upgrade on MCU1 today just messed up my car. Looking for insight

What software version are you showing on your main screen? I've got 2015 P85D with MCU1 on version 2022.8.10.16. It was updated only a few weeks ago. No issues that I've experienced thus far.

Connecting a temporary phone in my Model S

I've not tried this but I can personally say that a USB drive with MP3 audio files will play through. I would think that the car would just treat the phone like an external media storage device. I don't think you can play music on your phone as an AUX device though. Mine is a 2015 P85D with MCU1.

This is easiest way, just look at the front bumper. Otherwise go 2022 or lower.

    Model S Purchase Timing

Buy when you are comfortable with the price and even more comfortable with any adverse depreciation from factors you cannot control (like lowered prices for new Plaids, etc.) Get gap insurance if you are financing.

    Need help

@Darius's the one you circled in blue is what I'm talking about. It doesn't connect into anything that is attached to the car. On my car, it's literally just dangling there connected to what looks like a dummy plug. The harness wire for this plug is about 6 or 7 inches. Following the harness...

I just looked at my 2015 P85D and mine's not connected to anything although it does have a dummy plug end that it's connected into, kinda like a cap cover to protect it from dust and debris. 2020 Model S Rubbing On Turns

Are your wheels stock? If they are aftermarket, I'm guessing your wheels are wider than stock on the front hence the rubbing. You can fit stock-sized tires on a wider wheel. Otherwise wheel offset can do it too in combination with wheel width. Post a picture of your wheels.

Oil change in drive unit tesla model S

I'm guessing this is what happened to my car? Somebody has definitely messed with the drain plug on my rear drive unit. Maybe the fluid was changed out at 12.5k miles per the service schedule. Montana LLC for sales tax? (Moving to LA which has 10.4% sales tax)

I guarantee you he's got an attorney on retainer with probably a $50-100k retainer fee. As I've said, it's very doable. Go find an awesome attorney. As a side note, a Plaid is not even worth the hassle. Montana plates are for $300-400k Aventador level business purchases.

Oil change in drive unit tesla model S

Thank you for sharing this. I had noticed prior that my drain plug's green marker line doesn't line up so that tells me Tesla or someone did something to my rear drive unit before I bought the car. Interesting since my car just turned over 18k on the clock. 2015 P85D and drives great so who...

Montana LLC for sales tax? (Moving to LA which has 10.4% sales tax)

I won't tell you how to do it but it can be done in plain sight and so obvious yet tightly legal. There are some minimum requirements to meet then all is good. Many, not few, get away with this. Kinda like how many businesses are registered in Delaware and how many don't pay taxes. There are...

Bugatti Chiron Super Sport v Model S Plaid Track Pack: DRAG RACE

That Bugatti is a work of art, no doubt, and it's stupid fast top end is bonkers. It's out of my (and everyone else') price range. Used Model S Repairs/Service History

Here's what I would do... find $13k you can throw away and offer $13k cash for it. Consider it a small entry fee into the EV world. If it craps on you then it's only $13k gone, oh wells. If this is not doable then don't buy it. Old MS are like old S-Class Mercedes. Looks cool but when it...

    Model S might be…. Better?

@manderson4040 I've got a P85D. I'm very prone to motion sickness. As a passenger, I can get sick especially if I sit in the back where I can't see the road. As a driver, not so much. This happens in ICE cars. The first 1-2 weeks of my P85D, I would get motion sickness as a driver. I think it...

Does a replacement battery increase resale value / insurance claim value?

If this helps, I called my insurance agent and he says it depends on your policy and what is factored into it. EVs are still new territory for insurance coverage. Too many variables so call your agent and have a discussion. For my policy, it's replacement value and not what I spent. If my P85D...
