    Navigate On Autopilot in Australia

Never say never. This precursor gull wing was bought new in 1955 for $7,295 & sold in 2012 for $4.62m.

Current rates of atmospheric CO2 increase are not “natural”

One of the fundamental issues is the low relative proportion of the population that are scientifically literate. An education revolution is urgently needed but even substantive discussion on mere curriculum becomes mired in partisan politics. Indifference to academic principles and complete...

Living in constant fear of v9....

Maybe I’m the template of how they’re going to force updates then? My IC has gone all kandinsky. So I called service & a few hours later they called back after diagnostics & said I have an ancient version 2018.18.2 - (no nags) - and that I need to update. Nag apocalypse lol

    Australia government supports for EVs

I believe you know what you’re talking about, in contrast to those who believe that academia must have collectively got this all wrong or has perpetrated the grandest of all frauds.

    'Supercharging' cheaper than fuel...

Also not truth in advertising - there’s fairly recent research into the social cost including the environmental cost - at least another $1.00 per litre. So figure the real total is more than $2.50 per litre. Thinking about it logically it’s much more than that when you consider the value of a...

    Australia government supports for EVs

Speaking not just EV’s but in the wider area of future transport & energy, I know what you mean and as a phrase quite accurate although jokes are meant to be funny. And these clowns aren’t. Politicians left or right that don’t govern for the benefit of future generations are - in reality -...

    Wall Connector not charging car

I suspect it’s more to do with the size of the car which wouldn’t fit in the convict era garage. So the HPWC went on an exterior wall under a carport in the driveway - exposed to harbourside corrosion normally experienced by yachts. Yet still allegedly suitable for outdoor use.

    Wall Connector not charging car

At some point the warranty became 12 months regardless. I had 2 replaced under the original warranty but they’re certainly not built for long life apparently. I’m currently building a garage and am considering just a simple 3 phase outlet so I can use my Juice Booster 2 instead of a HPWC.

3 Phase HPWC vs Juice Buster2/Maxi Charger, etc. for traveling?

3 phase yes absolutely no doubt about it and will still be the case, for many remote places, for years to come. For example, I’d like to return to Quilpie and Birdsville more than a decade after my last visit, this time by road and it’s not looking too hopeful right now for anything apart from...

    Model S Navigation

Yes it’s all about taking in the backroads sometimes. If you’re committed to the experience, then I suggest Waze, then go to Settings, Navigation - Avoid toll roads, Avoid motorways & Allow Unpaved roads. A sure way to find the scenic route. Tesla nav needs a simple Scenic Route button.

    Driving to Bathurst

Yes 15 m/s headwind is ~55 km/h possible in storms but highly unlikely all the way to Bathurst & if calculated as all headwind component then that will skew the calculation unrealistically. A 15 km/h headwind is more realistic I think. Heavy weight will contribute. I think this graph is...

    How Green is EV ownership

I'll quote somebody who is...as Wilbur mentioned above...Origin Energy’s head of energy trading and operations Greg Jarvis. Jarvis puts the cost of solar in the mid $40s/MWh and the cost of wind at the low $50s/MWh. That cost of solar is around half the average price of wholesale electricity...

Makes sense since the US has had the required positioning precision via WAAS since 1997 from what I’ve read (on WikiPedia fwiw). Vector maps for AU/NZ? Anyone got the yet?

I prefer no-nags on 2018.18.2. Vector maps won’t entice me. Not sure which will finally make me update: • Dashcam mode - maybe • Fully functioning Navigation that recognises new motorways which doesn’t make autopilot & even regular cruise control unusable - that would be really good • Cross...

I find it ironic that the publication in question is referred to as a ‘newspaper’. You don’t need to visit the website (I did & I’m sorry I did) to understand that there is no news in it...it’s 100% pure guff to put it politely.

What’s your 90% in Rated Range on an 85KWH Model S

I think the simple, most correct answer is yes. If you limit your SOC to 50% or 60% for everyday running & increase it as required, you’ll see even less degradation, over several years the difference will be considerable, depending on your point of view & how many kilometres you actually travel...

    Defeating the Autopilot Nag

Well I do know you drive a lot more than I do so maybe I'm not so bothered by the nag :) For me I don't think I’d find a series of rubber bands or an orange more convenient than resting a hand on the wheel. Also, statistically, that slightly increased risk applied across an entire fleet could...

    Defeating the Autopilot Nag

It’s easier & safer to rest a hand on the bottom of the steering wheel. Until we get to a higher level of autonomy, anything that has even the slightest chance of prompting distraction or reducing vigilance is an unnecessary risk.
