Climate Change / Global Warming Discussion

Geothermal isn’t as easy as the article would make you believe. First, they make it seem like you can do this almost anywhere, but you need a lot of things to come together geologically to make this work - especially high heat that isn’t too deep and good reservoir rock with some permeability...

HELP! Model S Won’t Charge at Supercharger

The same thing happened to me last December. You have a problem with the master charger. You can charge on level 2, but not level 3 DC. It took them 2 days to get the parts after they completed the diagnosis. The invoice said the master charger was replaced. Luckily, mine was repaired under...

    Hatch not "screwing" down.

I would be interested in this as well. I have noticed that over the last 6 weeks or so that I’m not always hearing the ‘screwing down’ sound. I thought I just wasn't paying attention, but it seems to be intermittent. I’m a little concerned because my warranty is up in about 8 months and wonder...

Motor Trend Tests Tesla's V3 SC

One thing I don’t think was accurate was the statement that if someone plugs in next to you, your charge rate can drop by half at v2 chargers. I assume they work the same as v1 chargers that share and that the second car will get the power not being consumed by the first car, up to 120 kW, but...

NEMA 14-50 adapter no longer included with vehicles

Does anyone know if the wall connector is repairable? Mine starting showing intermittent faults and then failed completely with a solid red light. A ranger was at the house replacing the parking brake and I asked him to take a look. He said it was probably a failure in the electronics (the main...

    2016 model s 90d - 180 mile trip can't make it on full charge?

I assume you are aware of the energy app? If you input a destination, the energy app (screen) will show you the estimated energy usage for the trip and the expected state of charge upon arrival. By monitoring this screen you can see how you are deviating from the estimate and adjust accordingly...

ELECTREK: Tesla starts limiting charge to 80% at busy Superchargers to reduce wait times

Then why did this happen to me twice yesterday? Once there were only 2 cars connected and the second with only half the slots taken. I had the charge limit set to 90% and it shut off at 80% both times. The first time wasn’t an issue, and I was ready to leave anyway, but the second time required...

    2015 Model S P90D Supercharging Issues

You are correct that supercharging bypasses the AC converter. But in this case, as in mine, while the car would not supercharge, we could still charge on AC, the opposite of the usual case. I was told that a component called the master charger had failed. This set of electronics apparently...

    2015 Model S P90D Supercharging Issues

My 2016 90D had the master charger fail as well, but no amount of plugging and unplugging could get the charging to start. But consider yourself lucky, mine happened 160 miles from home, with a state of charge of less than 15%, 150 miles from the nearest service center, at the beginning of a...

NEMA 14-50 adapter no longer included with vehicles

I am moving to a new house and just had a 14-50 installed instead of a wall connector. I used to have a WC in my current house but it failed after about 18 months. I had a ranger out to do the parking brake recall and had him look at it. He said it was probably the main board, couldn’t be...

    Supercharger - Fort Stockton, Texas

Either day in February works for me, though it might be rather chilly. I do like the idea of star gazing and I doubt I will care much about the Super Bowl. A nice glass of red wine in front of the fireplace sounds really nice.

I’m ok with Nov 3. That should at least increase the possibility that the site is energized for the event. Either way, I looking for some input on where others will be spending the night.

    Texas Hold Up!

Can’t you pick up the vanity plates and skip a step? I had to register my Model S myself 2+ years ago, so this may be different, but I was able to pick up my vanity plates as soon as they were available and never had regular plates on the car. You might want to call and check if you already haven’t.

    Supercharger - Fort Stockton, Texas

For those of you who will attend the celebration, where are you thinking of spending the night? I understand that rooms are hard to come by and expensive in Fort Stockton. I was considering Fort Davis (and looking forward to buying Charlie a beer) but it adds a lot of distance on the way back...

    Supercharger - Henrietta, TX

If you look, you will find a lot of discussion on speed vs. range. There is a dramatic difference in drag between 65 and 85, even with a rather slippery Tesla, so slowing down can make a big difference in range. The same applies for all cars, but there is always another gas station nearby, so...

    Supercharger- Richmond, TX

In the end, it doesn’t really matter what it is called as long as it is built and operating and the location is clear on the map. By the way, Greatwood was annexed by the city of Sugar Land at the same time as New Territory in December 2017.

    Supercharger - Fort Stockton, Texas

I’m not on Facebook either, but put me down as tentative. I’ve been wanting to take a road trip, but health issues have prevented that so far this year, but I’m up to one now. The temperature should be rather nice in late October.

    Supercharger- Richmond, TX

I just did the same; the Model 3 was coming out as I was going in. We may have jumped the gun a little to say this sight is under construction vs. with a permit. I bet the guy out back of Rudy’s taking a break is wondering what the heck is going on with all of the Tesla’s cruising the parking...

    HPWC not working

Now you know why we have breakers! Someone else asked about the size of the wire. Please make sure the wire size is adequate for charging at 40 amps. It is hard to tell from the picture, but the wire looks smaller that what my electrician installed for my charger.

    HPWC not working

It looks like you have 2 choices. If you are comfortable, replace the breaker and see if that resolves the problem. If not, call an electrician to trouble shoot the problem. It sounds like the breaker has gone bad if it will not reset. Just be aware that there could be additional problems that...

    HPWC not working

What is the rating of the breaker? If set for 40 amps, the breaker must be rated for at least 50 amps and must not have anything else on the circuit. If it charges and then trips, you either are pulling too many amps or have a bad breaker. How old is the breaker box? If very old, you may need to...

    HPWC not working

Is there no light on the HPWC or is there a red light? If no light, the issue is with your breaker tripping and there is no power to the WC. If there is a red light on the WC, there is a fault in the WC. In that case, use the rest button on the WC rather than the breaker. My WC started showing a...

Texas Supercharger Locations (location speculation, discussion)

Report on the Walmart in Stafford, TX. I went by today (Sept 24) and this does not look to be a supercharger installation. Texas Supercharger Locations (location speculation, discussion)

I cruised by the site yesterday, but didn’t learn much. The electrical contractor is Kenmore Electric. The site was fenced and screened. It was raining, so I didn’t get out to take a better look. I didn’t see many materials inside the fence and nothing that looked like what I have seen in...

I don’t know if he is willing to do this, but contact John Gray at [email protected] and see if he can help. I used him to apply paint protection when I got my S and he was very accommodating and reasonable. His phone number is 832-264-0670. Good luck!

Texas Supercharger Locations (location speculation, discussion)

I quickly cruised the area this evening on the way home. There are a couple of prospective areas on each side of the building and towards the rear with power nearby, but I didn’t see anything that looked like excavation or construction in the area of the Walmart.

My Tesla Story: Holding out on Tesla and lessons I continue to learn.

I thought I remembered that the main pack is disconnected when the airbags deploy. So, I looked at the manual and found the following in the airbag section: In a collision, in addition to the airbags inflating: • Doors unlock , and the door handles extend. • Hazard warning lights turn on. •...

Car wouldn't power up this morning

Same here, it happened once about 3-4 months ago. It seems similar to a computer hanging on boot up and forcing a complete restart seems to solve the problem. I don’t remember this happening in connection with an update.

Longevity of HPWC vs. Mobile Connector

I was wondering if someone would mention this. I charged at only 24 amps with the wall connector because it was connected to only a 30 amp breaker. I replaced an EVSE I used with a previous car and didn’t want to go through the hassle of installing new wiring. However, I live near Houston, so...

Longevity of HPWC vs. Mobile Connector

I got the HPWC in mid 2016, so I assume it is a gen 1 unit. The ranger told me it was probably a contractor or some such thing and that the unit was not repairable. The cable was not the issue. The funny thing is that the HPWC never failed while the car was charging. I would go in the garage and...

Longevity of HPWC vs. Mobile Connector

    TRADE War effects?

From what I have read, the price of steel and aluminum have increased in the US no matter its origin. When the import tariff is added/increased the domestic suppliers increase their price to just below or the same as the import price. No one will give up the added profit. Considering that many...

The Texas Delivery & Registration Process

I do not know the detailed rules, but I would suggest caution. I do know that you would have to have a valid California address to register the car at delivery. I’m not sure if you will have to prove that is your residence through some type of ID. Then, the car will be licensed in California, an...

"Tire pressure very low" - but its not???

Sorry, but I’m confused. Is the pressure reading correct at 34, 35, and 36 psi? If not, then you have a legitimate beef. But, if the the pressures are correct, I don’t understand what you are complaining about. It seems to me that tires that are 10 psi below the recommended pressure are a...

Model S 75D Long Trip Questions

If you haven’t already, take a look at the detail sheet in evtripplanner application and see what the SoC is upon arrival and departure. If the charge time is very short, less than 15 minutes, tell the app to skip that SC and see if you can easily make the next one. If you use ‘route through...

    Supercharger - Pecos, TX

Are you aware you can input a wind speed? Make a few estimates with winds speeds of 10, 20, and 30 mph and see how the energy requirement changes. You may find that you can tolerate 5-10 mph, but have real issues with anything above that. Effectively, adding wind speed (as a head wind) is the...

    Park Brake Repair

Yes. I received this almost 2 months ago. Wasn’t sure if I was a scam so I didn’t respond right away. I got a second note, so I replied. Push Notifications for Large Scale Issues

With the recent large scale outages of Slacker and LTE, and all of the questions it raises in the forums, I got to thinking about how nice it would be if Tesla would push notifications to the app and/or the car telling us about the problem. If the Tesla help line was made aware of an issue...

Vehicle inspection in DFW area (TX)

Take the car to your usual place. Ask if they have done an inspection on a Tesla before. If no, leave and try another place.
