    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Nav saved / named locations are indeed stored per profile. I know because every time the silly software update “factory resets” the system I have to re-enter favourites on both wife’s and my profiles. Bloody annoying. They also didn’t come back from the cloud unlike some of the other settings...

    Model 3 roof glass crack

Rear glass on my Fremont-made 3 was replaced for free by Tesla because that was a known problem - no impact, it cracked along the bottom in the black area. Windscreen replaced by Tesla for free because they cracked it while investigating a safety restraint system fault during the warranty...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

To the discussion about software versions and phone connectivity, I'll add that I'm on 2023.44.something and have also had intermittent trouble connecting to the car in the last week or three.

All I can say after almost 6 years of ownership

Hehe, I guess it might depend on where you live but around here “well made” and “American vehicle” wouldn’t normally belong together. Neither French. My Model 3 has had all three large glass pieces replaced and now intermittently complains about a safety restraint system fault. When I tried to...

Euro crash tester says carmakers must return to physical controls - Impact on Australia?

I find the indicators and the gear selector in my 2019 Model 3 to be crap compared with my old vehicle. Switching into reverse sometimes doesn't work (if you're going just a bit too fast forwards still) in the 3 whereas in the old car, the gearbox was definitely in whatever position you moved...

State based EV road user charge (Overturned 18/10/23)

I would love to love public transport, but even for longer trips in Melbourne, I too often have afterwards found myself thinking "should've just ridden" (being primarily a cyclist, the Model 3 is basically my wife's), because it would have been quicker, and if not quicker, at least more pleasant.

State based EV road user charge (Overturned 18/10/23)

Just got my refund letter. Have moved house over the summer (though why that should be any sort of issue I don't know; I changed my address on the VicRoads website/portal and was promptly sent the sticker for the back of license). Not quite sure why the cheque couldn't have been included in...

Aircon keep vs. letting car heat up and cool down

Cycle the compressor? That sounds positively last-century. :-P These days I'd have thought the "intelligent" inverter-controlled compressor would just slow down such that the outgoing airstream was at the required temperature. Now what that required temperature is, is another question. If it's...

    Yeah I’ve not received anything.

Aircon keep vs. letting car heat up and cool down

Interesting that the heater used 75%. How would that change if you had the temperature set to LO (and manually reduced the fan speed), I wonder?

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Grouss: could you confirm that we can turn auto-wipers completely off when using TACC/AP now? I read that elsewhere and am hoping it's in the Aus'-deployed version too. Specifically, can wipers be set to "Off" while TACC or AP are engaged? Thanks.

Windscreen cover extra for insurance -- worth it?

I had glass replacement cover and was glad as the roof glass cracked on its own. As had the rear glass earlier (though Tesla agreed the rear glass crack was a manufacturing defect and warranty replaced it). But then mine’s a Fremont car so…

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

My nav favourites (and home setting) disappeared along with all my other settings (factory reset, except keys), on the last two updates. Some settings come back from the cloud (if you have that set up) once you sign in - but not nav locations. Super annoying so I’m not doing updates until one...

Car continuing to move forward even with brake pressed down all the way

Car of mine does similar because it has a leaky master cylinder: you press and get almost no response, pump again and get some response, another pump and you've got brakes. For a few seconds, then you feel the pedal moving down again as it leaks. But it's consistent behaviour in that it's always...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Well I’m in the camp of those for whom voice control is a joke. There are a few things it can mostly get close to right (fan speed, though asking for a speed usually results in an incremental change), others which might take four or five attempts, and some things it just never ever gets right no...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Yeah I think there’s some bug in the AC code. I think I mentioned this a little up-thread. I’ve seen the AC change status, the temperature change, etc. It seems to me to be associated with changing profile but this is hard for me to check because it’s mostly my wife driving the Model 3; when I...

    Cybertruck Waiting Room - Australia

I hope they don’t ever sell them here, unless the silly thing can be demonstrated to be not a grave danger to other road users, incl. pedestrians and cyclists. Stupid American “trucks”. 😠

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

No, but mine has changed other things, usually when opening a door. Climate settings (like turning on AC) and music (like starting to play Spotify despite me last having used USB and it being off prior).

    Cracked rear glass

My guess is something sticking up when the boot was closed. My rear glass cracked along the bottom, in the black glued bit, without the star/explosion at the start, and Tesla agreed it was a factory defect and replaced it for free. Apparently wasn't a rare thing. But yeah it didn't look like that.

Because not everyone knows that Wiper Service Mode is a thing... 😇 Well; didn't. And thanks for the feedback T3SL4A, so I wasn't imagining things.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Hey is it normal for Wiper Service Mode to keep the wipers up on the windscreen even after engaging Drive and driving for ~140km with numerous stalk-button pushes (at least, at the start), but then immediately parking them upon engaging Reverse, at the end of the drive, to drive into ones...

    New M3SR vs LR

I've a SR+, and it does take more effort in planning trips than with a petrol car. Having driven Mel<-->Adel a few times with it, the nominal 350km real-world range is often not achievable - because there's not a charger at 350kms, and you therefore have to stop earlier anyway. But there are...

    Evie EV charging networks

Gah. Remember when you could pay for stuff without an internet connection? Seems like a potentially significant 'national security' vulnerability to have transport linked with something as fragile as the 'mobile internet'. But hey that's not my field so perhaps it's not as stupid as it seems to...

State based EV road user charge (Overturned 18/10/23)

Ah dang, I just paid a week or two ago. I can't say I'm hopeful that we'll be refunded... Perhaps I'm too cynical.

M3P Auto wipers on when in Autopilot normal? [yes]

Since late last year (2022) one can't disable the horrible auto wiper functionality while in TACC or AutoSteer. Perhaps cleaning the windscreen in front of the cameras may help a little. I still get dry wiping, mostly in the evening, but usually just a swipe or two. Yes it's awful.
  26. bay74

If the rise in insurance is because of repair costs why isn’t third party cheap too?

Wrong thread :). I disagree with some of your assertions / assumptions about heat pumps and Tesla's implementation thereof, as was being discussed here.
  27. bay74

    So… Highland is out…

Hi GlynG. I think it is an air source heat pump. It's 'pumping' heat from the outside air into the cabin (or vice versa); heat which is transferred into (out of) the vehicle initially (finally) through the radiator. Yes it can also pump heat from other sources like the motors and battery, in an...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

No luck, I've a Gen 2. And I think one of the late, dud, Gen 2s which can only charge Teslas (i.e. no other brands) regardless of how much you fiddle with dip switches. At least it should be able to be used in slave mode. I intend to use a Raspberry Pi as the 'master', as that Pi is the one...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Thanks but no I set it to the scheduled start time option (as I have cheaper power from midnight to 4am, stuffed if I know why those hours in this day and age but whatever). It did indeed start at midnight as intended. It's the 3kW load (blue line).
  31. bay74

    So… Highland is out…

Can you find a source for that claim? Because at the end of the day each cell is still ~3.7V and requires a certain current to charge it. How the pack is arranged is irrelevant to an individual cell, and pack heat generation, except in the possible reduced wiring which connects all the cells. No?

Yes but the Tesla SC is near the cafe and toilets, whereas the other charger is at the edge of town at some gross servo. 😉

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Did one of the updates this year make the sounds really quiet? I could scarcely hear the indicators anymore. I figured Joe Mode had actually started to do something (turned that off and could hear indicators again but wife says even with it off it’s not making noise. Will try toggling). Oh and...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Gah damn software was updated again. Car was at body shop for six weeks, picked it up and surprise you now have 2023.26! Oh and we erased your wife's profile, and erased your trip (energy) meters (which annoys me as I like statistics). I suspect that the reason my profile is still there is...

    Aussie queues this long weekend

Incidentally, other than Tesla's Superchargers, I've used almost only Chargefox chargers. Perhaps that's a function of driving mainly Mel<-->Adel, and until relatively recently there weren't any others along that route - now there are, e.g. the Evies in Tailem Bend, Beaufort, Kaniva, and Ararat...

Don't want heater on, want vent

But don't forget that after the above steps you then have to again switch off the AC because the stupid system turns the AC button on again when you drag the temperature control to LO. Then when you want cooling you have to set the temperature to something reasonable and activate the AC and...

I'm starting to think OTA updates aren't such a good thing

I’ve disconnected my car from Wi-Fi after the last update nightmare, which erased all settings and profiles (except keys and odometer), and now forces me to have those unbelievably stupid wipers on auto mode any time TACC or AP is on. Presume Tesla will complain if I ever need service but until...

Tesla officially launches Charge On Solar

Here in Australia net metering has never been a thing (except for early on where some people were allowed to keep their spinning disc meter, but back then systems were 1 to 2 kW, and few), and we have one of the highest per-capita rate of rooftop solar (2022, but probably still the case)...

    black car in Florida?

We went with white because we thought it’d help to not get as hot. However the large black roof glass, which takes up most of the top of the cabin, makes even this white car essentially black. Ah well. We leave windows a bit open where possible.

    100% charged display km

Hi. Anyone know what a 2019 SR+ Model 3 originally showed as the rated range at 100%? The Range Table Bluebay linked to above seems to be dead (doesn't load for me) and I'm having trouble finding anything relevant on the 'net (it's all miles this and RWD-version that). I don't mean the nonsense...

    GM just adopted NACS 🤯🤯🤯

Thanks for the detail. Pretty much matched my understanding but much more clearly worded. To make it absolutely clear, can I check that I've understood with the following? non-Tesla vehicles with a NACS charge port won't be able to use V2 Superchargers; Old Teslas which lack the knowledge of...

    GM just adopted NACS 🤯🤯🤯

Do the older Tesla-connector Superchargers use the same protocol as the newer NACS-connector Superchargers? I read somewhere that older Teslas might need a "CCS upgrade" in order to use NACS chargers (except, I'm guessing, if the new NACS station also supports the old Tesla protocol). Is that...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Not surprised Canberra cars don’t smell - dry inland climate. And this is a separate function to cabin overheat protection. Separately, like a few others have noted above; my mobile app seems to be having communicating with the car recently, when the car’s asleep. I’m on 2022.44.25.2.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Presume you're aware Tessy Sam that after a drive during which the air conditioning system was used, the car will run fans for ... quite a while, like maybe half an hour, in order to dry out some component in there, in order to avoid the stench of mouldy socks. Which develops eventually anyway...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

To this day I have not managed to navigate to Lorne. Nor Urquhart's Bluff, nearby. Nor "Gran and Pa's", one of our Favourite locations. We are near Lorne relatively frequently and often play the game "where will we go today while trying to navigate to Lorne". It most frequently understands...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Yes even cars with radars are no longer using them, as I understand it. I don’t know when (or indeed if) Aus’ delivered cars lost radars. They still have ultra-sonic sensors right? Longest update on my car took over an hour and a half. That was the one which erased all the settings.
  48. bay74

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Yeah the forced auto-wipers has been a major annoyance for me since a disastrous update late last year (the one which ended the use of the radar and wiped all my settings). Always in the evenings with the sun low in the sky the moronic wipers start scratching their way across the windscreen. And...

Does using supercharger actually save money for a road trip compared to petrol?

Us Victorians need to add the 2.5c/km state tax to the per-km cost, which makes EVs even less competitive with petrol for highway trips away from home AC charging.

    MY RWD insurance all 2k+?

Considering a Model 3 roof glass replacement is ~$1700, my ~$2200 p.a. comprehensive insurance doesn't seem ridiculous. (I have a 2019, and the glass just cracked all of its own accord, apparently not an uncommon thing on the "early-ish" Fremont vehicles. Tesla replaced the rear glass as it was...
