$10 for air

The 1999 law gives you free tire air only if you paid for fuel at that station. If you can't produce a receipt that you spent money on fuel at a particular station, it's not free.

It's also free if there's a service performed even if the service center doesn't sell fuel.

So, it's only "free" if you paid for something else :)

Don't know if you have Quik Trip Gas Stations near you, but they ALL have free, no-cost air pumps, available to anyone.

FYI.

(And, if you're still paying money to fossil fuel companies to destroy the planet, at least they also sell Top Tier gasoline.)

Electric charging station is also providing "fuel" in the form of electricity but California has not enforced free air in these cases just yet.

California law does catch up with metering "fuel" with electric charging station just like gas station. Soon, new electric charging station must have a meter so the consumer can know how much electricity they have consumed and how much they need to pay. (Tesla has a meter on your screen already but the numbers/payment can be different because the in-car meter shows what the battery gets which can be cheaper and lower than what Tesla has to supply and sell you at a higher sum of money due to inefficiency, HVAC usage... which is why there's a new law).

I think Tesla’s response was fine.

I am wondering if those who think Tesla did not handle this well, are you demanding that it be free?

I have a feeling that if the technician said it was $2.50 or $5.00, there would be comments along the lines of it being a waste of time or petty to even complete a transaction of such little value.

I also wonder if it took the technician away from a job for 20 minutes, between interacting with the customer and moving the car(s) around, processing the payment, would those who are unhappy with Tesla then offer up 1/3rd of the hourly labor rate?

Where I live there are some free air sources at gas stations and some are coin-operated. You could also do it at home. I don’t understand wanting someone to do this for you for free, especially outside any other billable service.

Yes, absolutely, 100% should be free.

You make it out to be way more work than it really is. Moving cars around? Come on, when was the last time you were in a service center? Also, if the techs are "so busy", one of the service advisors up front should have taken the car and done it him / herself. I mean, really, how hard is it? How long does it take, 90 seconds?

Take away from the job for 20 minutes? Really?

It's called customer service. Do the little things that cost you next to nothing or, in this case, literally nothing, to gain goodwill and keep a happy customer.

Well let's go liberal then. States make a law that air stations should be available at EV charging stations. However, they would be forced to put air stations at the strip mall parking lots as well. Also, the casinos, hotels etc would be forced to do the same. So who knows what will be law in the future.. But right now, if it's a business decision for Tesla, I don't blame them..

This has nothing to do with any of that. That's completely missing the point.

The fact is, Tesla service stations HAVE AIR. They are literally wanting to charge the customer because they don't want to be bothered to put air in the freaking tires. That says what they think about keeping their customers happy.

I never would have thought to go to a Tesla Service Center to get air only. I just go to the local car wash which has a coin operated air compressor. I also have my own portable compressor in case of an issue on a trip.

Where do we get air then if we dont really go to gas stations? Specially these days our cars are just sitting in the garage. Prone to loosing air. I think Tesla should be required to atleast provide free air, atleast for their own product.

i think if I go to BMW and ask for air with my bmw they will give me free air, or even Toyota.

Dude just buy this and put it in your frunk.

I had no idea people still went to gas stations to put air in your tires when it couldn't be easier at home.
