I've been putting off this onerous task, but I'm running out of corona virus projects, so this thread is timed perfectly. IMHO, this problem shows the WORST design flaw of the otherwise amazing Model 3.

No, but that the wheels themselves stick out further than the tires. This is the first car in my long driving career that loves to scrape the curb in this way. I'm one of those people who use the aero covers. Why not design the wheel so the aero covers get scratched? At least they are cheaper and easier to replace.

I take it you have not owned many performance cars? There’s really nothing unusual about the Model 3 wheels at all that I can see.
The Aeros need to clip inside the wheel so that doesn’t seem unusual to me either. Just don’t curb your wheels?

I’m really not. There’s nothing even slightly special about the wheels on the Model 3 that make them more prone to curbing than pretty much any other sporty vehicle minus the occasional one that has the tire stick out further than the rim itself (like on a truck).
Use your mirrors’ dipping function when parking and you should never hit a curb.
