My understanding is it depends on the build date of the car. Anything built after October 1st should be a 2022. De!ivery date is irrelevant, the build date is what determines model year.Rookie question here. For resale value, would end of year deliveries be considered a 2022 model?
Hope you get moved to this Q!I've been tracking your delivery as well...
That was in 2018. In recent years they have been doing model year cutovers in Sept/Oct.No, I got my Model 3 in December of 2018 and its considered a 2018
For the purposes of resale value, insurance, and excise taxes, the model year actually matters.Whatever year the vin is attached to upon release. I’ve read they stay 2021 right up to January deliveries. I’ve seen a lot that says they start changing in October. I’ve seen more that say the date it’s produced and rolls off the factory floor is the date it is. Regardless, in this Tesla world the army in the know will get it at time of sale. Meaning, if you got it 12/31 and it was called a 21, folks would understand it’s no different than the 22 someone got the week of 1/1 a week later. For this batch of July through next year and beyond, unless something major changes like a new steering wheel or some body change, they’re all the same with same software updates. A plaid will be a plaid and a long range refresh will be the refresh LR. In the past, years aligned with battery sizes and which ”P” model it was, did it have a retractable sunroof, was premium connectivity and supercharging included etc and the year meant more. Going forward and until a major change, year will just mean how much mileage and original price the way it’s moving around.
Same order date and Same config originally but then I removed FSD. Was October from the beginning and remained October until the big reorg happened a couple weeks ago. Now sitting Nov 27-Dec 17. Picked up a model 3 last Thursday and my SA offered to check his side of the system regarding my S and he said it’s showing him “Mid December”. We’ll see…I ordered in late May 2021 (5/28/21) and received RN1150XXXXX – Refresh 2021 Model S Long Range, white exterior, black interior, 19" Wheels and FSD...

We have a 2021 Model X. We took delivery in early November.I think that changed in 2019… the switch over to the new model year a month or two prior now in most cases. Many people got their 2021 Teslas in late 2020 last year

Thanks General! For the purposes of resale value, insurance, and excise taxes, the model year actually matters.
So a 2021 vehicle is not the same as a 2022. Even if you’re a member of the “Tesla army in the know”.
I see what you did there, twice, right on. We all seem to be "helplessly hoping" for a VIN and EDD!If I were David Crosby, I'd run out and get the Porsche - I know my local dealer has a variety in stock. Then wait out the Model S, enjoying Tesla delivery deja vu (as I am, actually). And think about getting a haircut. (Puzzled? Bone up on CSN(Y) history.)
Regarding "lies": A harsh term, over which intent is a factor, but I agree that Musk/Tesla crossed a line last January - call it willfully negligent over-optimism, different from 'normal' Elon time. Production people within Tesla must have known that production was not going to begin in February. Or March. Or April....
RN1144 / ordered January 27, 2021 / Long range / Red / Cream / 19-inch / I’ll drive, thank you / Est. delivery: September 9 - September 29 , Mt. Kisco, no VIN.
Same with me. Ugh. I guess I sold my 3 way too early. I don’t want to keep having to daily my Miata for that long. I miss my carWoke up this morning and my EDD has now been pushed out another month. Was holding steady at Nov 23 - Dec 13 for almost
two weeks. Now this morning I'm showing Dec 13 - Jan 02 -(
According to my SA this is true. Late Nov will likely be a 2022.I think that changed in 2019… the switch over to the new model year a month or two prior now in most cases. Many people got their 2021 Teslas in late 2020 last year
