6 seat vs. 7 seat

I know that what I'm whishing for is too much but...

Wouldn't it be great if the 7 seater had a detachable middle seat in the second row? so you only put it in when needed, and you'll have the space and view when not needed...
And then an electric coolbox that would exactly fit in the gap, incl armrests and cupholders, that could be powered from the cable that came from the chair that was taken out...

I would gladly pay extra for that option! (Although I feel it should be included for Founder Editions:wink:)

But for now, I'm really close to stick with my choice (based on what I've read over here) for 6 seats... although... 7 would be...
Aaaargh.... 4 more days and then my config is final.....

If you're gonna make one middle seat removable, may as well make all 3! Better than folding, LOTS of cargo room!

This is the view from our rear view mirror in our 7-seat P90D. The visibility is abysmal. Thankful that the backup camera works well...at least until it rains

Rear view camera treated with RainX improves the situation, but only slightly...

It's manageable. We're going to live with the 7 seats since we will have occasional 6 or 7, but would regret not being able to get 7 in but mostly have 5. 5 with 3rd row down still gives a lot of space and seating. And 7 when we absolutely need to.

Has anybody researched the option of making the middle headrest detachable? That rearview is my main reason to go for the 6 seater option....

I have asked a "Car Seat specialist" (is that the correct term?) to look into this.
If anybody else knows I would be happy to hear about this....

Now if only that center seat of second row leaned forward enough to get out of the way like it did with Musk's car at the reveal/first deliveries event, you might not need to detach the headrest. Is this a possible future firmware update solution?

After 5 days with the X, my kids have no problem sitting in the 3rd row with the 7 seats. Actually, they prefer to sit in the back (the two older girls, 12 and 10). They said it's much better than the Model S which felt a lot more tight. My husband wanted to drive my X today to work and I drove his S, big difference. Definitely a lot more space in the X.

I'm not sure whether this was covered in this 6 vs 7 seat thread, but here's my experience with my 6 seater today. I had to buy some 96 inch flourescent bulbs today and bring them home in my X I put down the third row, ran the bulbs between the 2nd row seats and put them on the armrest between the front row seats. I probably had about 18 inches of clearance remaining! I'm not sure how that could be done with a 7 seater (but then, how many times will I be buying 8 foot long light bulbs?).

Actually that is one of the reasons we got the 6 seater. I seem to but something very long about once a year. Typically a section of PVC sprinkler pipe. Also wanted to have better access to teh third row for the kids. We never move the 2nd row. Kids just crawl through the gap to the 3rd row.
