A hitch with the hitch in NJ

I ordered a red Y AWD in January, which added up to a little below $55k, which is the limit for the $5,000 EV rebate here in NJ. I asked Tesla about the hitch and they just got back to me. First, it cannot be put in retroactively and second, it has to be paid at purchase. I confirmed that this means it will cost more than $55k and thus make the vehicle ineligible for the NJ rebate.

Bummed about that.

Just give it a few months. I'm sure they will figure it out. And aftermarket will be available.

Many people, including me, have been told by Tesla reps, that the hitch will be a service center installation, like the model X.

In my case, adding the hitch to my order would cost $3k because of pricing changes since I ordered, so I’m not doing that!

I just received word that yes, it can be ordered afterwards as a service item. Whew!!

Hi, I am planning for trade-in and wondering if it would make MY eligible for NJ $5k rebate if the cost is below $55k after trade-in + hitch? Thanks.
