Wow, I think the technical term there is 'fugly'. I wouldn't drive that car even if it went 1,000 miles on a charge.

Well you should take into account my poor artistic skills, I think the real thing would look better. And quite frankly if it meant making it to my destination instead of calling a tow truck, I wouldn't care what it looked like. As I said, they would be removable so you wouldn't need to leave them in all the time.

Formula 1 race cars had wheel spats a couple of years back. (They were banned later as a way to slow the cars down as they were getting too fast). I can imagine something pretty cool looking in CF:

Which is probably why aero wheels on all 4 wheels probably is better than or equal to skirts on the rear wheels alone.

What about clear plastic that is contoured to fit over the existing wheels?

I've actually seen front covers designed with a hinge at the top and rollers on the sides, the idea being that only at lower speeds would the wheels turn enough to contact the covers.

Hmm, this picture really does appear to be something like a clear Lexan cover on an alloy wheel. Easy and elegant, IMO.
