Do you guys know if 18x9.5 +40 will work with out issues?

Performance or no? The performance rotors are thinner and cause the wheels to sit 5mm more inboard relative to the other models. This is why the stock wheel on the P3 is a +35 and the others are +40.

It would be pretty close on a non-performance model and definitely would not work on a Performance car.

Wait, are you saying the P3D+ has a different rim offset? Why would they do that? I assume to further reduce weight?

I am thing about a staggered setup for my model 3 Performance. I will get custom hubcentric rings to fit the lip on the hub from the thinner rotor hat, no spacers.

Option 1. front 20x9 +37 245/35/20 and rear 20x10 +30 275/30/20
Option 2. 20x9 +9 245/35/20 square setup.

Option 1 sounds good, the front will be slightly outward (a good thing) .... and the rear will be about 1/2" further out. That's about the max I would want to go. I'm very curious about how this looks. Seems like most optimal.

Option 2 +9mm offset seems to be too little and may push the rims further inward. 26mm difference (35-9=26mm) which is the equivalent of 1.02 inches. The .5" increase in rim width would put you at .25" increase outward facing. The 1.02 offset minus the width increase .25" will put the rim net .77" further inward.

I could be completely wrong, but that's how I am reading it.

This is a bit confusing, as the protrusion on the performance version from the hub on the front axle suggests that the rotor hat is maybe only 2 mm thinner? And the rotors themselves are not thinner it's the rotor hat.

The second question concerns the performance and behavior of the car with a staggered setup when the stock setup is a squared one. I assume you've driven both staggered and square setups? One has to be concerned that the car would understeer with the staggered setups that people are selling for the performance version. Or does the car's traction control system in a sense automatically compensate for this and still give you relatively neutral behaviour at limit in non track mode? What's been your experience on these issues?

Yep, but it's been confirmed to be a 5mm rotor difference by @Mad Hungarian and it also makes sense why the stock wheels are +35 for P3D and +40 for others.

Without a question, i would go with a square set-up. The rear can take something much wider but with such a balanced car it really does create understeer just from the physics of it. Also i would imagine that track mode was designed around a car with relatively equal grip on all four corners (i.e square set-up) so its probably best to stick with that IMO.

Thanks - makes sense and it was what I assumed anyways. All the aftermarket wheel guys pushing people into the staggered setups on the all-wheel-drive performance version seemed a bit sketchy frankly.

Its mainly T-Sportline from what i've seen and frankly they aren't really a performance Tesla shop, i'd go to Unplugged or Mountain Pass for that instead.

It's also EVS Motors. They are offering a great deal on Vorsteiner staggered setups 20 x 9+20 x 10.5 for only $1650. It's a phenomenal deal on a really good looking and lightweight wheel but they won't sell two of the 20 x 9 pairs to create a squared set up. They told me I could buy two of the staggered quads (8 wheels total!!) but then they would not guarantee fitment in the rear! Bizarre.

Two questions: 1) alternative colors (graphite, silver or something other than black); 2) square setup - while these staggered setups look sexier, they are not the way to go with AWD. 20X9? Offset?

These can be done in almost any sort of color! All of those you mentioned can be done. For sizing, these can be made to a 20X9 size as well with any wide range of offset. 20X9 +35 is pretty common setup and we can fine tune from there on how you want the fit.

Specs on my signature. But I guess it doesn’t show on mobile devices.
Here you go:

Avant Garde M590 | Brushed Matte Antique Bronze | 20x8.5/+35 245/35/20, 20x10/+40 275/30/20 | No Spacers
TSportline 1" Lowering Springs

Paid 3k out the door with delay discount (-$100). Don’t know the weight though.

How's the car handle with the 1" lowering springs compared to stock? Notice any issues with clearance or ride comfort?
