This isn't too bad. As I'd rather not be forced to have my car make noise, being able to toggle the noisemaker off would be preferred, especially in quiet settings. But the noisemaker will be helpful in busy parking lots. Here's what they sound like in Forward and Reverse:

Worst case, if the noise is too offensive, you can take out the exterior speaker and run an appropriate resistor inline where the speaker will have had been.
It depends on how the law is written. If it's written in such a manner that the OEM must make it present, that's one thing. As an example, in some states, there is an exemption for window tinting limitations if the tint was applied before the time of purchase. One caveat - it would presumably be illegal to defeat a required safety system.
0-20 is somewhere under 1 second I thinkGreat. Now our government is forcing me to drive 20 mph or faster in parking lots. It looks like I might have to upgrade to a performance model. Does anyone know the 0 to 20 times for the M3 and the P3. It is already hard for me to stay below 100 mph on the highway….
You, me and probably everyone who's been on the Internet for more than a week.I was absolutely expecting a Rick Roll.

Yep. As of the first of this month, 50% of new EVs/hybrids from a given manufacturer must make noise while driving 19 mph or less. A year from now, 100% must have this "feature". This isn't optional for the manufacturer, so they're not going to provide a switch or setting to let you disable this. Are these required in the US? If not then I'd hope they'd just turn the sound off or offer us the option to turn it off
Now, wouldn't that be something if the actual pedestrian warning sound was a Rick Roll? People will scream bloody murder and demand a repeal of the regulation.I was absolutely expecting a Rick Roll.
I plan on buying another Model 3 sometime this year. Hopefully there are mods to disable it by then, just like with the Nissan Leaf.
