Ambient lighting virtually non-existent

i've had the ambient lighting on Auto since I got my Model 3 two weeks ago, and it's only visible when I put the car in Park. I know that it's related to the screen brightness, but I don't want to jack that up needlessly. I changed the ambient lighting setting to "On" and that seems better. You can at least see the color now. I haven't driven it at night yet with the setting on "On."

I have not received my car yet so i have no hands on experience, but that being said i would expect that the ambient lights are more visable at night than during the day when in auto.
