I am totally fine with delays... if there are delays. I haven't been going around crowing to all my friends that I bought this car - they'll all be asking "so where is it?" if it ends up arriving late. I have a company putting a 14-50 into the garage in a week or two, and I have been reading this forum for months, so I know how long all the first owners waited. Today's waiting time is chump change.

I got a helpful email from Tesla today about installing charging gear. They have certainly been working to build a polished ordering/delivery process.

The next concrete step is to get a VIN. It's still an S85... for now :)

Well, one thing I already did was install motorised garage doors as a pre-requisite for ordering the Model S. Didn't want to have to get out of the Model S in pouring rain and heave the door up... uncool  I have never actually had remote-control motorised garage doors before, it's quite the life-quality jump already! They have super-quiet operation... I will be able to sneak in and out of my house without my neighbors having any clue LOL

They also had a 6-week waiting time before delivery, hmm.

I did switch to Geico! The cost of my Model S + house under Geico is going to be less than the current cost of my 2002 Civic + house under State Farm. :cursing:

Oddly enough, Tesla updated my dashboard today with an empty box for my insurance information, so I had to enter that.

Oddly enough said:
Hmmm, nothing on my dashboard about insurance yet, but I did receive the HPWC. My electrician is going to come right after Thanksgiving to get it installed. Good news is we are cannibalizing a dryer outlet we are not using and as a result will be able to get 100 amps to the garage without having to upgrade service to the house.

@MartinAustin, I keep thinking our cars will come to Austin on the same truck.

Made my decision to upgrade to the variant I'd wanted all along... the P85.

I was worried after last week's price hike that I would have to pay the new price and end up with Alcantara headliner, red calipers and spoiler - which don't suck, but aren't my best choice for another $3000 going into the car. Fortunately, the delivery specialist was happy to take the older price and not include those options.

Also, he did say that the low ride functionality of the Air Suspension had been borked by a bug in the 5.8 software update - and that they are working on a fix that will restore behaviour of the suspension to what it was, say, a month ago.

Overall, a very productive phone call :)

I highly doubt I will increase to the P85+.

Two of of my three test-drives were the P85+ actually! Never got to really drive it in anger, as you can imagine.

I want to keep a lid on tire costs... and I am interested in a quiet ride, which is why I'm opting for the solid roof and parcel shelf as well as the 19" tires.

I chose the solid roof not only for quietness, but also upon the advice of my G.P., who says no matter what Tesla's marketing department may say, you are always getting hit by ultraviolet rays if you have an all-glass roof with no cover on it.

(my G.P. also drives a P85)

And this just in... only 9 days after confirming (and on the same day I asked to upgrade to a P85), I have a VIN!!! #28155.

We're closing in on 30,000!!!

Today I got my custom plate! (look left)

Also the electrician visited today that's going to install the charging equipment. Since my main electricity supply breaker panel is on the opposite site of the house to my garage & charging location, I am sad. Lots of long, thick wiring about to get installed!

Hopefully houses will supply their power near the garage in future, so that installation of electric car charging can be less expensive.

Same story at my house. Long run with some trenching since we have a detached garage.

Someone at Tesla attached my "finalisation" invoice today, which shows the dollar amount of the car (which I knew alrready of course) but I'm guessing marks my last chance to make changes.

I am still unable to choose whether or not I like the red, silver, grey or white the most, and I've gone with silver.

This illustrates one of the problems ordering a car from the manufacturer, that you don't have when standing on the lot of a dealership facing the choice between available stock that you can put your hands on. I like all of those colours, the car looks great in any colour to be honest, even the brown :)

Anyhow, the nicest part of his email was the estimate that delivery is now in "early-mid December." Perhaps ausdma our cars will be on different trucks?

Also today, I got the estimate for the electrical enhancements to my house. I got three different options, and will be discussing over in the charging forum.

I heard from my delivery supervisor that the car might be going into production in the next 24hrs... only 18 days after confirming the order.

Checked with my delivery specialist and he said mine should be officially entering production in the coming days and is scheduled for delivery on 12/19. I keep thinking ours will come on the same truck.
