Autosteer temporarily unavailable

My autosteer has been unavailable for the last week or so but only for my first few drives of each day. Afterwards and for the rest of the day it works fine.

Anyone have any ideas?

It's hard to know if you don't give us more info.

Is this your new car with Radar-less feature?

Is this your old car missing the new Radar-less feature and this kind of behavior has just started to happen now?

MYP built Sept 2020. I washed the car just to make sure it wasn’t dirt or anything of that sort. No front plates or metallic decals of any kind on the car.

Auto pilot had worked fine up til about a week ago. Same roads and freeways I’ve always taken. No changes in my driving pattern between when it worked and stopped. It’s strange because after a couple of drives the autosteer functions as normal. (I go from store to store all through out the day so I’m in and out of the car all the time hence the multiple drives.)

There was a software update but that was weeks ago before this started happening.

It could be new and improved firmware update that tried to fix something and in return, it would cause another problem.

If the problem persists, it's time to book Service Center up. Be aware that they can't duplicate the problem and can't fix what they can't see a problem.

Apparently it is the new update. I usually turn my headlights off when I’m backing out or entering the garage because I have a rabbit pen in there and I feel bad blinding him. When my headlights are set to OFF, auto steer is no longer available. If I toggle it to AUTO, it comes back.

So I guess this is all part of vision only update because it had worked from last October til a couple of weeks ago. Does this mean my radar is now disabled during auto steer?

I posted about mine recently last week.

Had similar/ same scenario as you. It sorta of went back to normal but every now and then my car would say that or all of sudden in Autopilot already, it would kick itself out of autopilot WITHOUT nag. Usually I would keep it in check within nag.

I have a feeling it was also the latest update that my MYP had recently too

Ah! Another feature that I didn't ask for but granted!

We wouldn't know because Tesla doesn't say that on the release notes but I wouldn't be surprised if Tesla gradually testing that out without us knowing :)

I only recently started seeing the “autosteer temporarily unavailable” while driving on perfectly clear days with no fog, rain, or heavy snow, and it always occurred in the mornings between 6 AM and 7:30 AM. Sometimes autosteer would later become available during my 40 minute drive to work.

Because of the sudden onset of this problem, I thought it might be related to one of the recent software upgrades. And because of the consistent timing of this unavailability of autosteer in the mornings, I thought about the possibility that perhaps autosteer now requires the headlights to be engaged during specific hours in the morning and evening, or when the ambient outdoor sunlight intensity is below a specific threshold.

So I tested that hypothesis and it seems to be correct. The last several times that I had no availability of autosteer in the mornings, I noticed that my headlights were in the “off” setting rather than the “auto” setting. As soon as I changed the headlight setting to “auto”, the small gray steering wheel circle Ivón on the display was immediately available again, giving me access to autosteer, and it functioned perfectly each time.

To further test this theory, as soon as I turned the headlights back to the “off” setting, the autosteer was no longer available and the gray steering wheel icon was gone from the display, during these morning drives. This is never an issue later in the morning and afternoon, when the ambient sunlight is brighter.

I don't knoiw what "radar-less" is ... I'm just a stupid driver/owner. I did get this yesterday while it was raining. I noticed that there was water blocking the rear camera. So I stopped, dried off the rear camera, and I got autosteer back. How in hell am I supposed to keep the rear camera dry in the rain?
