Can you buy EAP after configuration but before delivery?

I idiotically thought the added interest of getting EAP in my loan would be worse than the 1k hit you take when buying EAP after delivery.

Welp, redid my math there and realized for my situation it’s better to get EAP at 5k and not 6k.

I’ve already configured the car but I don’t take delivery till next week. I know turning on EAP is just done through software, so I’m hoping the service center will be able to enable it for me before I take delivery at the 5k price.

Anyone else run into this situation? I can’t imagine Tesla wouldn’t want to recoup the cost of the autopilot hardware as fast as possible, but I did configure without EAP selected, so, idk if they can do it.

Based on reports in the VIN assignment thread, it is very YMMV. Like a lot of things Tesla, unfortunately.

I did the same thing. I picked the car up last Wednesday 6/6, but the delivery specialist said that it was not pre-installed. He also said that it would be provided in the next few days as an update. I haven't received an update as of yet, even though I paid for it in advance of picking up my car. Does this sound right to anyone that it takes days for this to happen? I'm wondering if something is going wrong, and why it's not fairly instantaneous when they enable it in the account.

It wouldn't be associated with a software update, if that's what you're thinking. It would be a configuration change that they can push over the air.

I had to contact Tesla support on Saturday when I crossed the 100mi threshold and no indication that EAP was enabled on the car. The support person had to escalate it to another department, who would verify that I paid for it (along with some other things) and would then push the update out. I was told that could take up to 72hrs. Been longer than that now & I still don't have it. Will contact them again tomorrow.

I agree with you that it SHOULD be simple. Not clear why the person I spoke with didn't have the ability to change this. Since it's an expensive option, maybe they only give a limited set of people the ability to enable the feature?

I had called customer service and she told me that they were requesting up to five days to do the ticket because of the backlog they have.

But just before midnight I received a message saying that there was a new software update. I checked the car and it looks like the EAP settings we're enabled. The car seems to make lots of clicks, and small motor noises as it was updating. Pretty cool.
