I noticed this as well. I spec'd out a comparable vehicle to mine and it came in a little under what I paid. Main differences being for the Y had to go with AP instead of EAP and the premium interior is now included. However, I can't complain about much since I received the rebate, so getting the 3 early made a significant difference.

If this would have been the original model 3 they wouldn't have had to make another vehicle. No advantage to 3 over Y imo.

I guess they didn't learn anything with the reservation nightmares of the 3 so they decided to do it all over again, but with more money this time! *sigh*

My guess is since it is mostly based on the 3, they feel more confident since the initial issues have been solved.

I like the fact that they didn't deviate from the 3 too much.

The last thing that I wanted to see was something that left the 3. The fact that it's a "3 plus" type of car will help to keep the 3 relevant, current and minimal impact to resale value.

Cost wise, it is 1% less than the 3LR configuration I ordered (72000 before taxes) - this is a great sign that Tesla is becoming more efficient! Although it's AP and not EAP and the room of a SUV. It's tempting if there's another 14K incentive. Incentives drive EV sales, we all know that much

$3200 deposit to cover the capital cost of the 25% new parts R&D and design. New die designs and machining for the Y body panels. Production should be on schedule given they have the funding. Machine builders all over the world would love to get more of Tesla's money.

At 100k though for fully spec'd, it will definitely eat into S3X sales on the high end high margin cars. It is going to be interesting to see if the 35K M3 can sustain Tesla for a while.

BMW, Audi, Infiniti, and pretty much every high end SUV maker out there should be scared LOL

I think I'm liking it more and more. But I still need to see the third row, the hatch open and a better view of the frunk before forming my final judgement.

The wait for this will be a lot less painful since I'm not putting money down on it at this time.

Nope. They didn't have them opened up for the test drives and don't appear in any of the promo materials.

Any difference to this being a $3200 order versus our $1000 reservation deposit before? The $1000 was literally a placeholder, whereas this seems like we skipped that stage and going straight to configuring and ordering.

It is a hatchback! I like that vs the Model 3 - now the trunk won't collect all that water when the lid is opened (which happened to me yesterday after all that rain). And black with chrome delete looks awesome too, imho.

Could be a strategic move like they did with the 3 so it doesn't eat into existing vehicle sales. Who knows, it is 75% the same of the car so such a short presentation makes sense imho. They do need to get Elon into Toastmasters though and have him hang out with the Donald to learn some showmanship.

It’s hard to see and count but after looking at a dozen or so different videos 7 people got out of the blue Y on stage. Don’t know though if they were sitting in the third row or on their hands and knees in the hatch!

The matte black rims on this demo Y is sick... Why don't they offer that in the order page? I wonder if the chrome delete is only for show also.

I've also noticed there are chrome on either side of the steering wheel? Looks like the panoramic glass roof are reversed - the bigger piece on at the front rather than at the rear.

I looks 90% like the model 3 which I think it's a smart move so that people who bought the 3 wouldn't feel cheated.

Already having an X, I’m not interested in a Y, but I know a LOT of people that will be very interested.
