Got an email asking if I want the optional no cost CF spoiler.
Don't know if that's any indication of a pending delivery notice but one could be hopeful
I got my call today about the spoiler option. That makes 4 of us, I believe. He also told me that my delivery window was "November / December" and that I would be contacted 30 days before delivery to review the process. Given that it is almost the end of October, it sounds like I will be getting my Sig just in time for a white Christmas (not that I am complaining).

I asked some additional questions but as the person said he was a "Configuration Specialist", he transferred me to the "Ownership Experience Team".
The lady was very nice but did not have any new knowledge to add about Canadian deliveries. I asked her if the car has been approved for sale in Canada. She said she didn't know, so I pressed and said "Who does know"? She said she would check and get back to me but I am expecting a vague answer to a yes or no question. If I hear otherwise, I will be pleased to let my fellow Canadians know.

If there is a holdup of approval in Canada, I don't think it is because of kilometers vs miles or daytime running lights. My money is betting that some bureaucrat took one look at that honking big touchscreen facing the driver and decided that we needed to be protected from ourselves, lest we "drive distracted".

I received my call today (re the CF spoiler) as well David...the same reply...(Nov / Dec)...

Hey guys, this is 100% speculation but just to give you guys something to chew on:

The company that I work for found ourselves in a critical situation over the summer. We were going through a major release of a product and when going through the usual pleasantries with Canada to be allowed to sell it, we were denied because apparently there is some law that our whole product needed to have 100% French localization.

No we are localized for French, but had a handful of late bug fixes that were English only and that was enough for them to block us from selling in Canada. The legal team told us that this is not a new law but that they had just recently decided to enforce it.

So, if Tesla had been planning on shipping with say...an English only owner's manual. They might have run into the same problem.

Again, pure speculation.

Not only the manual, but the UI also should be localized. Any real auto (as well as software) producer should have planned for for multilingual support for day one.
Would you drive a car that its UI is only in Japanese because it was made in Japan ?

If Model S software/manuals needs major retrofitting, they are far from ready for Europe, Japan, and the rest of the world.

Canada is an easy case of localization...

Bonne nuit!

Supporting multi-lang, and having the translations completed are 2 completely separate things. It's not a matter of retrofitting anything, it's a matter of having every piece of text digital, printed or otherwise vetted which is one of the reasons the Euro cars are shipping later.

Also Canada is *not* an easy case of localization because it needs 2 complete, separate languages to be available. I'm in software as well and I can say we've had much more difficulty with the sticky Quebec language laws than with any of the European ones.

Sure, if you don't mind looking like an idiot.

How about this one?!

BBC News - E-mail error ends up on road sign

_45162744_-2.jpg

When officials asked for the Welsh translation of a road sign, they thought the reply was what they needed.

Unfortunately, the e-mail response to Swansea council said in Welsh: "I am not in the office at the moment. Send any work to be translated".

So that was what went up under the English version which barred lorries from a road near a supermarket.

Certes, Google peut faire toute traduction.
Oui, I was taught a few years of French in school but, being a bit rusty, Google did let me know what you wrote.
Pitty the Swiss ( 4 or 5 official languages ? ). Can't imagine what the cereal boxes look like

In any case my 2010 BMW has user selectable Language, Temp (F or C) and miles/km setup options.
Would expect it to be a no brainer for Tesla and the Model S

From delivery thread:

I just got my delivery window on Sig # 1278.

11/20/12 through 12/04/12 is the expected delivery window.

The highest US Signature number reported on this forum is 1360 - it appears they're getting close to wrapping up US Signatures. That delivery window was quoted from 3 to 5 weeks out.

Crunch time! Either this week or next they will have to transition away from US Signatures. The question is whether they go to Canadian Signatures or the US R list.

George Blankenship told me that they are planning to transition to Canadian Signatures next. If that is what happens then the first Canadians should start getting their delivery windows in the next week or two. If that doesn't happen then I have doubts that we'll see any Canadian cars in 2012.

My reservation reaches its second birthday on November 15. Crossing my fingers that I get a delivery window before then!

I emailed [email protected] today, see my email below and the quick response
I have deleted who it was from so they aren't bombarded.Let's cross our fingers!

Hi John,

Sorry for the poor communication, we are working on improving going forward.

Unfortunately I don't have anything concrete to tell you right now. This coming week will hopefully shed more light about the beginning of Canadian deliveries. We will get back to you later in the week.

Please let me know where I stand on a delivery date.
Do you have any further info other than the standard response of end of November, early December?
Any update would be much appreciated.
Thanks
John

You know, the great thing about TMC for Tesla is that we can take turns bothering them for information; now I will patiently wait a week and no one's time was used up writing 200 emails to Canadian Sigs... Everyone should join the Club! :)

I received the following message on October 3 Re: Sig 139:
Canadian Signatures are still on schedule for a November/December timeline for delivery.

Your VIN will be provided to you, when your delivery specialist contacts you about one month prior to your delivery.

Quoting a message to colinb from the "Random Model S Sightings" thread:

What a coincidence! That was Mark, our Technician, as we brought our Model S to the Service Center in Mississauga for a wheel alignment, and for him to get a bit more familiar with the car. It’s a Grey Performance, black interior with red piping, Obeche Wood Gloss dash, Tech + Sound Packages and panoramic roof.

Canadian Signature deliveries are still on track for delivery between November and December. You’ll be hearing from us shortly, so hang in there – the wait is almost over! We are also opening the Toronto Store on November 16th, and we’ll hope to see you there!

Rubber mats are being developed for the frunk, trunk and passenger cabin. These will be available in the coming months…

Well, it's reassuring that they're still saying November-December. (Mind you that statement is a cut-and-paste of what they've been saying for a couple of months, so it's feeling a little bit information-free!)

Nice config. Would love to check it out sometime. Anyone know if they are doing test drives yet in Toronto?

AFAIK they were already doing some test drives with the black Model S that they had earlier, so presumably yes.

Tesla will be opening a store at Yorkdale Mall in a couple of weeks. A while back, I talked with Hans at a temporary pop-up store in Yorkdale and he said the black Performance car that was used at the Toronto Get Amped event would most likely be their demo car. I'm curious about that Grey car mentioned above...

That's what they expected, but the black car was reallocated to a new store (in New York I think) that was just opening. The grey car replaced it.
