Charging station operated by a 50kW solar array in Oliver, BC

Burrowing Owl Estate Winery, has installed eight charging stations (4 Tesla and 4 Universal) in December. They are powered by a 50 kW solar array. Environmental Policy - Burrowing Owl Winery

So no sun means no charging? And no charging means wasted solar energy?

Or are the chargers also powered by the grid and the panels connected into the grid?

If it is the latter then the thread subject is misleading.

Is this any different then my 10kW of solar panels at home which indirectly charge my car even though I never charge during the day and all of my energy is technically sold into the grid? I produced 11 MWh of energy in 2017 which is probably at more than I used for my car.

The solar array is grid-connected. I checked it out in the summer, just before the EV chargers got installed. It's an impressively large setup!
Definitely a highlight if you're doing a wine tour in the area.
