Researchers find a western-style diet can impair brain function

Consuming a western diet for as little as one week can subtly impair brain function and encourage slim and otherwise healthy young people to overeat, scientists claim.

Researchers found that after seven days on a high fat, high added sugar diet, volunteers in their 20s scored worse on memory tests and found junk food more desirable immediately after they had finished a meal.

Does this explain Swampgator?

B12 deficiency is real, and vegans are highly likely to get it without supplementation. I'll take your word that the majority of B12 deficiencies occur in non vegans/vegetarians. This is logical. Vegans make 1-3% of the US population, and very few vegans remain vegan for more than a decade. Vegetarians are 5% or so. So 95% of the US population in NOT vegetarian or vegan.

The prevalence of cobalamin deficiency among vegetarians assessed by serum vitamin B12: a review of literature. - PubMed - NCBI

But what claim/point are you trying to make about cardiovascular deaths? What do those have to do with B12?
I'm guessing you are trying to say that eating meat causes CVD? Can you restate your actual claim/point in an understandable manner?

Yes - eating meat causes CVD. You can find various deniers but 97% of experts agree that a vegan diet has a significantly lower risk of CVD. You will never find a RCT that proves it. Sometimes we have to trust smart people who spend their lives studying and researching a discipline. Hopefully they are free of influence from Big Vege but we will never know for sure...

This one is particularly interesting. Is vitamin B12 deficiency a risk factor for cardiovascular disease in vegetarians? - PubMed - NCBI

Looks like B12 deficiency increases heart disease risk.
Yes - eating meat causes CVD
Wrong. I've already showed upthread that you are the science denier.
Did you know the founder of the Vegan Society in the US died of a heart attack at age 66.

Good luck with that diet choice.

Fates of humans and insects intertwined, warn scientists

The researchers said solutions were available and must be implemented immediately. These range from bigger nature reserves and a crackdown on harmful pesticides to individual action such as not mowing the lawn and leaving dead wood in gardens. They also said invertebrates must no longer be neglected by conservation efforts, which tend to focus on mammals and birds.

Firms making billions from ‘highly hazardous’ pesticides, analysis finds
The world’s biggest pesticide companies make billions of dollars a year from chemicals found by independent authorities to pose high hazards to human health or the environment, according to an analysis by campaigners.

The research also found a higher proportion of these highly hazardous pesticides (HHPs) in the companies’ sales in poorer nations than in rich ones. In India, 59% of sales were of HHPs in contrast to just 11% in the UK, according to the analysis.

Heartbreaking analysis of the fire season in Australia. Fire has always been a natural part of Australia but not like this. Making matters worse is the window to decrease fuel loading with controlled burns is now smaller. It's either too wet to burn or too dry, windy and dangerous. Micheal Mann was asked if this was the new normal. His response was essentially, 'That's the best case scenario'. So long as CO2 levels keep rising and temperatures keep climbing this is only going to get worse. Much Much worse. The sociopaths that ignore or deny this are truly loathsome creatures........

On an average day during the period studied, 25% of all tweets about the climate crisis came from bots. This proportion was higher in certain topics – bots were responsible for 38% of tweets about “fake science” and 28% of all tweets about the petroleum giant Exxon.

Conversely, tweets that could be categorized as online activism to support action on the climate crisis featured very few bots, at about 5% prevalence. The findings “suggest that bots are not just prevalent, but disproportionately so in topics that were supportive of Trump’s announcement or skeptical of climate science and action”, the analysis states.

“Even though we don’t know who they are, or their exact motives, it seems self-evident that Trump thrives on the positive reinforcement he receives from these bots and their makers,” said Ed Maibach, an expert in climate communication at George Mason University.

“It is terrifying to ponder the possibility that the Potus was cajoled by bots into committing an atrocity against humanity.”

Dry February sends California back to drought: 'This hasn't happened in 150 years'

Dry February sends California back to drought: 'This hasn't happened in 150 years'

The state’s future in the climate crisis looks warmer and drier not because of a lack of rain, but because of the extra heat drawing moisture out of the ecosystem. That heat is a major contributor to reduced snowpack, both as less snow falls, and as more of it melts more quickly. Climate science points to a California bound for a future that looks less like endless extreme drought alone.

“We aren’t going to necessarily see less rain, it’s just that that rain goes less far. That’s a future where the flood risk extends, with bigger wetter storms in a warming world,” said Swain.

As Nobel prize winners, we demand Justin Trudeau stop the Teck Frontier mine

As Nobel prize winners, we demand Justin Trudeau stop the Teck Frontier mine | Nobel prize winners

There is enough carbon embedded in already operating oil, gas and coalfields and mines to take us beyond 2C, let alone 1.5C. The implications of this are clear: there is no room for expansion of the fossil-fuel sector. There is no room for the Teck Frontier tar sands mine.

Projects that enable fossil-fuel growth at this moment in time are an affront to our state of climate emergency, and the mere fact that they warrant debate in Canada should be seen as a disgrace. They are wholly incompatible with your government’s recent commitment to net-zero greenhouse-gas emissions by 2050. And with clear infringements on First Nations rights, such projects fly in the face of rhetoric and purported efforts towards reconciliation.

This has important implications for water users and managers alike,” Udall said. “More broadly, these results tell us that we need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as soon as we possible can.

“We’ve wasted nearly 30 years bickering over the science. The science is crystal clear – we must reduce greenhouse gas emissions immediately.”
