Crowd Funding an HPWC in Sheridan, WY — Casper and Gillette to Possibly Follow

We are staying tonight at the Best Western in downtown Sheridan. The guy at the front desk was excited to see us and said that they were going to have a supercharger installed in their (ample) parking lot. I saw the head maintenance guy puttering about as we loaded into our room and asked him, and he confirmed and said that construction wasn't starting until July. So FWIW the Best Western staff thinks it's them. But who would really know. And even if that's all correct, maybe the permit will glitch.
BTW, the maintenance guy hooked me up with a 20 Amp 240 Volt outlet in their workshop (standard appliance outlet, like for a hotel room in-wall HVAC), so if you've made an adapter for that you can get 11 mph. But it sounds like the Hampton Inn will be our go-to soon.

I had local confirmation by a city employee--fairly decent location. A few blocks to historic downtown.

Any updates on chargers? Been having good luck with 50amps at the KOA's in Rock springs, Rawlins, Laramie and Sleeping Bear RV park in Lander. With all the wind and hills It's been taking about 2 hours of charging to get the range needed to make it to Colorado or Utah from Riverton. I just had a 50amp 240v setup at my office with the wiring to be upgraded to 100amp for a HPWC if Tesla is interested in making it a destination spot in Riverton. We have vending machines, free Wifi and computer lab for people to use when charging. Also a free shuttle to the Big Casino about 1 mile away or you could walk to the smaller casino a few large blocks away.

Great!

Anyone interested should fill out the form at Destination Charging Query Form to see what Tesla thinks of your site!

Spoke with the General Manager (Gunter H. Orband) at the Best Western Sheridan in downtown. He confirms that they are getting the SC's in their parking lot and says they are starting construction "in early May".
However, seeing as it isn't showing as permitted yet at supercharge.info, beginning of construction may be delayed.

I spoke with the president of the economic development board about this and he said there wasn't much to be done with a permitting process. The city has been onboard with getting superchargers for well over a year.

According to Bighorn, the HPWC at the Hampton Inn is live!!!

Crossing the Montana Supercharger Desert; Any Generous HPC/HPWC owners along I-90? - Page 14

Thank you everyone who offered to help Crowd Fund this site. In the end, Tesla paid for the project through their "Destination Charging" program; thanks to Tesla, also!!

That's terrific! I've kinda lost track; is there something in the works for Gillette? We're this close --> <-- to finishing the Chicago-to-Seattle route.

Same hotel owner is contemplating HPWC in Gillette, but Destination Charging team hasn't given the go ahead, apparently. I'm sure letters of encouragement wouldn't hurt because it is the last 80A gap, at least.

We still have several supporters committed to helping install 80 Amp charging, but e-mails to Tesla to ask them to put in destination charging in Gillette and Casper (I-25 to I-90 transition) would certainly help. The hotel owner that put in the 80-Amp HPWC with Tesla's help in Sheridan also owns hotels in Gillette and Casper. If you support this effort, please send e-mails to [email protected] telling Tesla how important filling in the gaps in Gillette and Casper is to you, and asking them to support Destination Charging in those locations. Tesla does listen to its customers.

OK done with the emails. Now make sure you have some good tunes for that I-90 adventure.

A Montana Tesla owner just spotted this 50 amp plug at the hospital in Gillette next to the Crazy Women RV Park. It's located at the white square concrete pad in the Eastern edge of this Pic. They said it allowed them to get a warm nights sleep at the Hampton Inn instead of freezing at the CW RV park, the top right corner of this pic. I think it's a find for getting that last bit of charge to get to Rapid City. I'll be there next Friday to check it out myself on the way to the Sound of Silence Road Rally.

Well, I sent a mail to [email protected], I've made a trip out of state almost every week that I have owned my Tesla and at this point I would be willing to pay to have some HPWC's put in in Rock Spring,Rawlins and/or Laramie. I have to charge at RV parks 2 to 3 hours mid trip depending on wind, cold and how slow I'm willing to drive. I got a nice little folding bike ride around when waiting, but it should would be nice to charge and double the speed and be closer to food or something to do for a hour or two.

Nice find--curious though more of the circumstances. Is this some sort of free charger or has the owner agreed to supply power to any random arrivals? Don't want to end up in the clink for stealing power:)

I have sent an email to the Community Relations Director of the Campbell County Memorial Hospital asking for permission to use this 50 amp power supply next Friday, so I should hear something back soon and will post what I find out. :) Once the Superchargers are in this power source will not be necessary for Tesla owners but could be helpful to other EV owners, perhaps.

If you hear from the hospital, ask them to put a dropbox, like those found in campgrounds, so EV users can pay for the electricity they use.

The Hospital Community Relations Director just left me a voice mail and she said that Campbell County Memorial Hospital was glad to provide energy and apologized that she did not have any power greater than 50 amps. They apparently have a 10 amp, 30 amp and 50 amp plug on their property.

That's awesome, Gary. Thanks for reaching out.

I'll add that I spoke with my contact in Buffalo at the Deer Park campground--the owner, Kirk. He has about 20 spare 14-50s (240V) that he is happy to provide to us for $5 for 1-3 hours in order to help bridge the Sheridan to Rapid City gap. It is exit 58 on I-90 and is 3/4 miles west of the highway on the right. I called specifically for folks who are travelling east for the Custer rally who would be fully charged in Sheridan and just topping off. I suppose if you were heading west you could eke out Billings, but that would require quite a few hours of charging and might require some further price negotiation.
