I have lurked on this forum for a couple of months now and it has been fun getting to know you all through your journeys. I am a proud yet dejected owner of a ‘99 Subaru Outback with manual transmission. The reason I waited for so long to buy a Tesla is I wanted to get the single casting. And the head gasket on the Subie failed In August. It is my second failed head gasket (car has 180K miles). So I have placed an order for a MSM MYLR. It is an August order, so EDD is Dec 8-31 after being at Nov 16-Dec 14 for 4 weeks. But feels like the end of an era. My 17-yr old son wants the Subie. Drives like a dream, but is a rust bucket, with a lot of Bondo. Want both my sons to know how to drive a manual, because that is what the rest of the world does. And I learned to drive in India - where it is opposite handed driving! They both know how timing belts are changed, because I did them at home with help from a mechanic. But I draw the line on an at-home head gasket repair! But I am bridging the generations here. And am no longer enamored of the carbon cost of the Subie at 23 mpg. The times, they need a-changing! But what would be cool is having some kind of manual option on a EV platform. I know everyone is talking about FSD and all that, I still like one hand on the wheel, another on a stick.
I really miss driving a stick. The last time I drove a stick was a rental Alfa in Italy. I think all the rentals were stick.

I remember when I was young I wanted a stick. This was when the G35 coupe first came out. The new gen Accord coupe V6 also just came out with a 6 speed manual option. I was young and wasn’t ready to spend too much money on a new car. I went with the Accord. I have not driven a stick before. I only learned about how it works, what it does, how to drive a stick, etc on a yahoo search. This was before YouTube became popular for DIY. Paid sticker for the Accord, because the V6 coupe 6MT was limited. I drove it home. Stalled a couple of times and peeled out a few times. Next day got stuck in stop and go traffic going to work. That experience alone made me ok in driving a stick.

Traded that coupe in for a E90 330i 6MT and then eventually for a E92 335i 6MT, with twin turbo. BMW had no choice because their beloved 3 series were getting bested by the IS350 and the G35/37 with a lot more power.

If all cars offered a manual, I would definitely choose it. Sadly, it seems to be fading away. Sometimes I find myself just wanting a Golf R, WRX STi. Every once in a while I still reach for the clutch.

You definitely will get tired and sore but if you're handy and interested, I found it to be an interesting experience. I'm a car guy, used to do upgrades on my cars years back before wife and kids so I have some experience and I just missed the good old days of taking apart a car and putting it together. Although I didn't have to take anything apart here.
I'm trying to sell my wife on the the auto frunk thing so I can get some mechanical work in but she's not on board yet. She doesn't want me getting into the mechanics of a car that new yet.
How much did you pay for the front bumper PPF? Are there cutouts for the parking sensors? Now to see if my wife would help me. :)

I used to do upgrades also. I had a ECU chip for my 335i to boost the psi that would had definitely voided the warranty. I carried a set of tools in my trunk for those situations where I needed to be towed to BMW service. This will allow me to remove the chip prior. Even replaced the diverter valves and many other stuff. I modded the heck out of that car. Now it’s when I have free time if any.

Hi all. I ordered my LR Model Y in late July in Seattle. Initial delivery timing was Dec 2021. Then it slipped to Feb 2022. Now it says June 2022! Yikes, that's a long wait. 10 month from order. Is that what others are seeing?
Was your profile completed. Did you get past the payment method and see the upload of Insurance screen? If not, select CASH to complete. This finishes your profile. If not, your in limbo until you do, if you want Telsa Financing, you can change it later and avoid extra Credit hits

Ouch… it definitely sounds like your profile isn’t/wasn’t fully completed.

BTW does that little hack still work to search for VIN within the page HTML code while it is not yet visible on the page?
Not sure about timing, but since I have a vin, I do see it in the source code.

I may agree with your wife, but on the other hand, I am debating the auto frunk as well lol

I had to step out of the workforce for a couple months (long story), but I am about to re-enter (two job offers expected this week). My credit union (NFCU) recently would not approve an auto loan due to lack of “verifiable income”, despite my credit score being >800, them having full visibility of the money I have in my accounts, and me being a 40+yr member. With my MYP coming in a little quicker than expected, I might be in a pickle and needing to pay cash for the car versus getting a pre-approved loan and using a draft from NFCU. I’m bummed because sinking that kind of cash into a car, especially while interest rates are this low, is a very poor use of capital, imo. I’m hoping to have a signed offer letter for a new job this week and maybe that will be sufficient for NFCU to approve a loan in very short order. If the loan does not happen, I’ll likely order another new car and flip this one a few months down the road, so I can buy the next one with a loan. If the loan does happen, I plan to then spend some money on XPEL Stealth to 1) protect the car and 2) change the appearance to matte/satin black.

That brings me to the next topic, XPEL. I’ve called 4 different authorized installers here in the N VA market and the quotes for XPEL Stealth have been $6,500, $7,500, and 2x $8,500. The lowest quote was from a reputable vendor a friend recommended and they have great reviews online. While speaking with one of the $8,500 vendors today, I asked why such huge discrepancy in pricing for the same exact thing in the same market. His reasoning was that they do everything custom and there would be no original blk visible, while other shops may use pre-cut material and the wrap may miss some of the details and not look as good. I’m not really buying that, as it relates to my $6,500 vendor. Heck, i feel like that price is even high compared to what I’ve read on these threads, albeit in other markets. If anyone reading has had a Xpel Stealth wrap done in the DC area, I’d love to hear about your experience.
FYI, most shops use precut pieces. That is the norm. What happens with PPF over time is a few of the edges will begin to show some dirt. Just on the edge and it’s very small but if you have a very light colored car and you look, it is there. The only color Tesla offers where you would be able to see any edge dirt is white. Not sure what color you are ordering but if it’s not white it’s not even a factor. If it is, it’s still extremely minor. Dont pay extra for custom cut. It’s just not worth it unless you are putting it on a $400,000 exotic collectible car.
