People who have read “Blink” by Malcolm Gladwell may remember this example. For those who haven’t, here’s a link that paraphrases the section of the book - Aeron Chair in Gladwell's Blink - Smart Furniture | Smart Furniture TLDR: When the now iconic Aeron chair was originally introduced by Herman Miller, people believed they were ugly compared to traditional padded chairs you’d have in an office. This was despite the fact that it was more comfortable, ergonomic, and functional than any other chairs. Today, it is widely accepted in offices and homes, and you can find an original Aeron chair in the Museum of Modern Art. I think this is what will happen with the cybertruck. It will be ridiculed for its design in the beginning but as a critical mass of these trucks hit the road, people will slowly come to accept the design, and it will set the standard for the next generation of pickup trucks.
