Destination fee

I live close enough to the Fremont factory that I could easily pick up the car when it is completed directly from the factory. Has anyone been able to avoid the destination fee by picking up from the factory? Or is it unavoidable? I would really like to save all the money I can especially given the current situation. I am currently driving a 2008 Jetta that is on its last leg. I am hoping I can just drive the Jetta to the factory and drop it off with them as I am planning on trading it in. First time Tesla buyer and new to the forum.

There will probably be a delivery center nearby to the factory. You will pick up your new car there, and drop off the Jetta.
Paperwork can be signed, payment finalized and you go through a touchless delivery process.

Prior to delivery they will send you a link to some informational videos to get you up to speed on EV ownership.

Will show you how to use the navigation to discover Superchargers near you in case you need some extra juice to get home.

Will have information on setting up charging at your home etc.

Enjoy your new Tesla. They can be life altering.

You will be in the radio silence mode until your car gets ready for delivery. At that time a Delivery Specialist will reach out to you to handle all the final details.
You will want to have your 240v home charging installed before then if you want quicker charging. You can also plug it into any 120V socket to charge, but that is really really slow.
Tell your delivery specialist what type of home charging plug you be using. They need to get you the proper adaptor to enable easy car charging.

That’s what I kinda figured. I have spoken to 2 different Tesla employees that both reached out to me. They requested that I text them if I have any questions. I have done so and they only answer about half the time which I understand as I’m sure they give customers who are closer to taking delivery priority. When I did speak with them they told me I would most likely be able to take delivery by June which I am very excited about. I did download the Tesla app but It does not seem to work for me and won’t let me past the login page so I assume it won’t work until I take delivery of the car.

Right. Your car will need to be linked to the app prior to it becoming really useful.

This is the time to kick back and relax about it (good luck). Try not to drive yourself too crazy reading forum posts, especially with disguntled people that complain about this or that.

If you text to Tesla employees they usually will look at your post and decide if it is critical to respond to. Otherwise they just work in the background to get your car processed for delivery.

They are terrible at coddling buyers. Pretty much work on a need to know basis.

Not to worry though, they will get you your car and give you all the information you will really need to take delivery.

I am planning on ordering 2 key fobs one for me and one for the wife. I don’t think I could get used to using the card all the time and my phone battery tends to drain quickly as I do a lot of work from my phone daily. I also think it will work better when I have to valet my car. I could see valet easily loosing one of those cards. What are your thoughts on the Key fob?

If your phone battery gets low during the day upgrade you phone to one with bigger battery and/or buy a power bank. As for valets, I never understood why people think giving their expensive car to some random 19-years-old is a good idea.

One good thing about the delivery charge it included getting the car to my door. I don't have a delivery center they aren't allowed by law to sell in LA but the trucked it straight to my door. I am sure they paid more to deliver my car then they charged.

I placed my order yesterday. There was no option for home delivery..may be because I live close to their factory. But its ridiculous to charge me $1125 destination fees AND ask me to pick it up myself. Doesnt make sense.

I'm a Corvette guy - always had at least one or two at the same time since the late '70s.
If you buy a new Corvette, you can choose to have it delivered to you at the Corvette Museum,
which is basically across the street from the assembly plant.
If you choose this $1,000 delivery option, it includes a museum tour and some other tidbits.
In addition to the $1k museum delivery you must also pay the standard $1,095 fee everyone else pays.
If your dealer where you bought the car is 10 miles from the plant or 2,500 miles, the fee is still $1,095.
It all evens out in the end for GM.
