Direct line - driving in EU

I guess I should just call them but does anyone know if you can drive in EU with direct line policy.

I seem to remember reading that Direct Line only provide third party cover when driving in EU and thus a foreign use extension would be desirable

DirectLine only provide 3rd party cover for driving in the EU but I purchased a "Foreign Use Extension" from them for a trip to France earlier this year. The Foreign Use Extension raised my EU cover to Fully Comprehensive for my 9 day trip for £48.

48 quid can't be covering any underwriting, can it?, particularly given there is some admin cost. So seems to me to just be a "hidden fee" to catch people out after-the-fact.

Hi, current DL customer with my MX, we travel to Europe regularly from here in the UK. 3rd party only, unless you pay. We did a month this summer for something like £75 which is their one-month fee? It extends your full policy to the EU, so full cover. Does add up, when you consider a number of other insurers include full EU cover as standard. Hidden fee as @Upgraded says. This summer for eg, my trip straddled my policy year, so they were going to charge me £75 twice. Took many calls to several layers of supervisors to explain I needed the extended cover for only 30 days, and that the 30 days spanned two policy years was their issue not mine....
