DIY Model 3 Jack Pads

Since I only plan to swap wheels/tires in the summer and winter I only needed one so $25 wasn't going to break the bank...

Now buying winter tires with wheels, a floor jack, and a torque wrench... that was another story.

I purchased enough parts to make 3 sets (4 ea.) of jack pads, at a cost of $9.01 per set.

I bought 12 hockey pucks on ebay for $18.50, shipped. ($6.17 per set of 4)

I bought 25 rubber bumpers from McMaster-Carr for $10.18 + 7.48 shipping = $17.66 ($2.84 per set of 4)
9540K35 - Rubber Bumper with Unthreaded Hole, Heavy Duty, SBR, Steel Washer, 1-1/32" OD, 5/8" High, 3/16" Hole, Packs of 25 $10.18

6.17 + 2.84 = $9.01

I traced around one of the pucks to make a cardboard centering template. I used this video to find the center of the circle.

Placing the cardboard circle template on top of a puck, I then used a sharp pointed drywall screw to push through the center of the circle template into the puck just to mark the center of the puck. I turned the screw few times to make the mark.

Then it was a simple matter of placing a rubber bumper on the puck and screwing it to the puck using a 1/2" drywall screw. 5/8" screws would probably work as well, but I just grabbed what was handy. The attachment seems plenty strong, but if they start to come loose, I will replace the drywall screws with bolts and nuts.

Probably took me 5 minutes to assemble all three sets. I'll keep one set, give one to my friend, and may give a set to the Tesla Ranger when he comes to rotate my tires the next time. The last time he came, he didn't use any jack pads to jack up my car.

The first photo (kind of dark) shows the pad inserted into the hole on the underside of the car.

God forbid any of you are using $9 worth of material to jack up a Tesla, you need to buy the most expensive accessories or else........ hahahahahahahha

Good job guys!

@kelly Does those rubber bumpers fit pretty snug once inserted?
Yes, that first picture shows it defying gravity. I don't know how it compares to others, but it feels pretty snug to me.

<<shrug>>
Just note that he had to pay $27 to buy a minimum quantity. I Paid $33 for all that I needed, so unless you have a use for extras the deal is about even.
Actually, I paid $36.16 total for 12 pucks ($18.50) and 25 bumpers (17.66). That allowed me to make three sets.

You paid less than me but you lost out on the joy of giving the other two sets away to friends with Model 3's. ;)

If I buy 12 more pucks ($18.50) I can make three more sets with the 13 bumpers left over. I could then give three more sets to other friends. That would require a total expenditure of $54.66 but that isn't that bad when you consider that 6 people got full sets of jack pads for that price.
