Tesla has the best product, but plenty of people are so disgusted that they will simply settle for an inferior product rather than give Elon any business.
Yes, there are people out there who will do this no doubt. However most people, like way over 50% of the car buying population purchase goods not based on what the CEO thinks politically. I sometimes wish they would so there wouldn't be such a huge line at Chick Filat.

I guess that will be because other EV/ICE cars are clearly better products, with a good fast charging network, and superior specs? /s

I do wish Elon would tone it down, some of the stuff he is posting is frankly embarrassing, it is hard to believe he means what the posts.

But then when I compare the specs and the price of the Tesla products, compared to the competition, I am reminded of what Elon is good at.

You can easily prove me wrong by citing a clearly superior EV alternative.

The best I can offer is some BYD cars and fairly good and good value for money. Some others not bad, but are overpriced, with poor software, and a poor charging network.

But I do hope Elon gets bored with his Twitter rants before competition arrives, it will happen one day.
Eh, I've never actually had to supercharge. Maybe my model 3 is better than some of its competition. But the gap is far closer than it used to be, and in some ways the competition has surpassed Tesla. I don't want to be associated in any way with that idiot. Once we're past the holidays, I intend to actively look for a new car and offload my M3P.

Proof? Maybe it’s true but there’s plenty of reason to doubt.
Like what reason? His single vote won't change the election outcome, the only impact the vote will have is symbolic once he made it public. Saying he didn't vote for Trump is not going to make him friends in Republican circles, if you're so sure he's going far right, why would he do this?

1. Elon is going far right
2. Elon is lying about voted for Biden

You can't have it both ways.

As for proof, he also said Trump shouldn't run for 2024, and he pushed back against Trump's claim that his 2020 election result is more important than the Constitution, and he said Trump would have lost 2020 no matter what. These are all proofs that he doesn't like Trump very much and consistent with his claim that he didn't vote for Trump.

I only Supercharge on holidays, and occasionally destination charge,

You must not do many trips where you drive long distances.

"I generally ignore Elon, but he really reveals himself here. He’s what I used to be: an inflammatory, MAGA culture warrior. I’m conservative & proudly woke, and there’s a great conversation to be had about “woke,” but Elon, like all bullies, is afraid to have it. What a shame."

"The woke mind virus is either defeated or nothing else matters"

I much prefer Joe's approach to discussing differences around this subject of "wokeness".

Tesla board needs to boot Elon fast: Tesla is becoming a partisan brand, says survey

Watch what happens when Tesla runs out of orders to fulfill.

Oh, this news also came out today: Elon Musk’s jet tracker on Twitter has been shadowbanned, claims owner
I was wondering in the back of my mind what would happen to that account. If it gets shadowbanned, that pretty much shows how much "free speech" really was a priority at Twitter. You would think Elon would want to keep that account untouched as much as possible as clearly it would be a very good counterexample.
If Jack can prove this and he quits, lots more will follow.

Chairman, UCSF Dept. of Medicine. Became well known during the pandemic for posting long and very informative threads on SARS-CoV-2.
As a long running Tesla fan, that's what I'm worried about. Sure, right now the effect on sales is perhaps not that much, but this is not a good trend to be having and the maddening thing about it is that it is completely unnecessary.

I think Elon could justify deboosting that account for personal security reasons but he really does need to be transparent about it. The coming update where you’re shown your account status will be the pudding as proof.

The places I go to are all either within range of a single charge or far enough that I’d rather just fly. Very little in that sweet spot where it’s too far to go on a single charge and too close to fly.

And at the end of the day, even if not perfect, ccs chargers do exist. I’ll deal with a little inconvenience if it means I no longer have to associate myself with Tesla.

Well that's an interesting take.

Without free speech you get shining examples like China, Russia, Iran, North Korea?

My post did not mention anything about absolute free speech, and very few are advocating inclusion of revenge porn, child porn, incitement to violence type of speech.

One would think that a powerful entity, government or corporate, (particularly those portending to be a public square type of platform) should be able to censor, suppress, shadow ban or de-platform without transparency. In particular, I'm speaking of political, policy and scientific thoughts and opinions. It is this type of speech that should not be privatized (Elon included).

Censorship in these areas are a threat to democracy. The government, in collusion with media censorship is how democracy is lost.
"Free speech" is what Elon's constantly harping on.

And yes, he starting with "absolute" and then has been slowly walking it back as he's learned that absolute free speech is something that nobody has or wants anywhere.

The reality is that what people want is "curated free speech". They want the government to set some boundaries, and the venue to have its own limitations. This can result in a China, Russia, Iran, or North Korea when the government hand is heavy. Or it can result in any other country's environment depending on the details.

Generally, it's not censorship that's a problem in most places, it's bad curation.

Elon vastly underestimates the cost of good curation, but if he doesn't have it then Twitter is doomed.

To be fair however, if Elon was willing to self fund Twitter completely (I remember reading some of the former Twitter people suggested he do that if he wanted a true free speech platform), he can certainly make it a place of absolute free speech with minimal to no moderation. The problem however is it is obvious Elon is not ok with Twitter being money losing, especially given he sunk in $44 billion (which he didn't want to spend in first place, thus the lawsuit). So he remains at mercy at the advertisers. It's possible Elon can change his mind later though.

The problem as it relates to TSLA however is that a self funded Twitter would mean him selling more stock, and it's pretty hard to argue that would have zero impact on the stock price (even though you can make an argument about the other effects of the Twitter shenanigans).

Criticizing someone is not incitement of violence and if crazy people want to engage in threats based on that, then that’s their responsibility
The cult status of one of the richest and powerful man in the world, with 120M followers on a dopamine-reward machine like a social media platform he now owns, and who's been lately radicalized and radicalizing people with several micro-messages with no possibility of deeper context and discussion, makes writing a message like that dangerous. It is what it is, people are gullible and stupid and mentally unstable. It's the law of great numbers: the more you have influence, the more care you should put in what you put out there.
I'm sure Elon is smart enough to understand this.

Interesting, I'm a board-certified physician, and I still haven't heard of him.
He's sometimes on local news, which is no surprise since I'm in the Bay Area and he's at UCSF.

Here are a few I turned up when checking for my local news stations w/his name:

Still doesn’t ring a bell but I see the impetus behind their tweet after Elon’s “Branch Covidian” remark. Lol.

I watch local and national news (I switch between different stations and networks, intentionally) fairly regularly + some international coverage. Bob Wachter most definitely comes up sometimes on SF Bay Area local news when it comes to COVID. The above stations are our local ABC, NBC and Fox affiliates.

Maybe he's not on our CBS affiliate as much (KPIX): Study of long-term effects of COVID reinfections reveal lasting health problems.

KQED is a local major PBS station: UCSF's Bob Wachter Says COVID Still a 'Real Threat' — but He's Ready to Eat Inside a Restaurant | KQED.

UCSF's medical school has a really good rep:

Yeah maybe that’s it. I don’t watch network tv/news past the occasional blurb that comes up on YouTube.

I have TiVo OnePasses (formerly Season Passes) for local news across the 3 networks for national news + local news for ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox (KTVU) + some other news shows (e.g. NHK Newsline, BBC World News America) + some other financial news that does cover some news like various shows on CNBC (e.g. Worldwide Exchange) or Bloomberg Surveillance.

For sure I don't have time to watch even 1/4 of all of that, but it leaves me flexibility to try switching to another network/station as I have the recordings and I have it keep only a few eps of each.

However, Bob Wachter would only tend to come more locally and probably less on national news. I did find the below with his name that seem to be meant for national, not local news:
Officials expected to decide on new COVID-19 vaccine design in early July
Biden administration bracing for challenging fall and winter of COVID-19

While I do believe that Musk’s overt anti woke left politics will cost Tesla millions of potential customers (and if you disagree with that, just wait for 2024 when Musk is one of DeSantis biggest supporters), it still comes down to what is a reasonable discount for future demand concerns.

Whether those concerns are based on competition coming, new disruptive technology, recessions or boycotts of all things Musk, it’s all very speculative.

Meanwhile, each quarter, Tesla continues to sell out (at a good margin) more and more cars. Hmmm.

Should there be some discount to future earnings potential because of potential future reduction of demand? Absolutely.

Should that discount be as large as the SP currently implies? Absolutely not.
