Epoch Times - Green Light for World's Second Largest Wind Farm

The Gwynt y Môr wind farm, 8 miles off the coast of the U.K. in North Wales, was given the stamp of approval by the U.K. Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) 3 Dec.

Together with with three other neighboring offshore wind farms, it will have the potential to power the equivalent of 680,000 homes, making it the world’s second largest wind farm after Florida, U.S.

The Mayor of Colwyn Bay expressed his concern that there would be too many tall turbines close to the shore and that the “visual impact would be nil” if it were built further out to sea.
“The stunning natural landscape … is now under threat,” he said.

Is he kidding? Windmills 8 miles offshore aren't going to ruin anything. I've seen large windfarms along the hills of Pennsylvania, there is nothing objectionable about them at all. In fact considering what they represent I'd say they look great. Someone should ask him if he'd rather have some coal plants in town instead.

Any issues with wildlife out there?

Nothing I am aware of. It is a busy shipping route (into Liverpool), but that is about it.

Hoped when I opened this that it was in the United States.
We should do something like this with all the space between us and New York City.

I read recently that lead times on turbines are up to 3 years now. There is a huge gap in the market for production capability for these things.
