THey keep giving some much free money to folks, who then do not want to work, which causes businesses to fail because they cannot get employees. One just needs to get off their butts and work hard. Only socialism thinks things like "living wage". So one can have cars, cell phones, LCD TV's. Give me a break.
I agree, we went to one of our favorite restaurants in Napa on Wednesday and they said it would be a 1/2 hour wait because they were short staff. In Sonoma there are lots of help wanted signs, if you give people extended benefits why would they want to go back to work. After I got out of the Army I went back to college, had to commute carried a full schedule some classes were at night and worked a job in between to afford college. My wife was always expected to go to college and her parents paid for it, she does not appreciate her education as much as I do because I had to work my butt off to get my degree.

totally agree. I worked 3 jobs 70 hours a week and went to college.

I went to college and got out in 3 year! Took 25 plus units a quarter. Worked full time in summer and went to night school at UCLA.

I got out of college with NO debt! Owned my first home at 35! Retired at 52. No one gave me a thing! I worked my butt off. So all this talk
of working wage is a joke!!!!! Look at the poor folks in other countries, now they are poor.

If the system would have given me free money, would I have worked all those jobs and hours as a teenager? Probably not, why.

Yep, most folks went to college and partied, because either the parents or system paid for it all! Now, my parents did pay 50%, but the rest was on me, which is why I worked SO hard to get out in 3 years. Know anyone else who graduated from college in 3 years!

I feel so bad for my grandkids. The debt they will have to pay off. And worse, the chances that another country takes of the US because we have become so soft!!
The kids the last 50 years have not have to fight for freedom and watch their friends die!! I just missed the draft by 2 years. I got lucky!!

In many ways which you don't seem to realize. There may be some incidents of people unable or unwilling to work, not exactly unexpected during a pandemic, but most people want to work and do, even when given some aid. This is proven over and over again yet people such as yourself cling to the myth of laziness.

My parents had no money and wanted me to go to college but could not help financially, if you are motivated and have a good work ethic you can do anything you want. I could go back 40 years when I interviewed high school kids to work part time or in the summer and most of them could not spell and would not work menial jobs for minimum wage.

Do not need to go back 40 years, many of the kids are the same today!!

I is not necessarily about laziness but more of what’s in it for ME, it is a me me society. Not sure how things are today I have been retired for 20 years so not it the current work force. I did work for 10 years part time at a winery, and most of the younger employees were worthless.

While at a car show about six years ago, after listening to a white male boomer pontificate about how hard he had worked and how no one gave him anything and he had to earn everything...

...I repeated to him something that I heard decades ago.

Essentially, imagine you are hauled into the back of a C130.

After take off, you must surrender your wallet (and thus your structural capacity to access credit).

You are given a ten dollar bill and a phone card.

The phone card will become active in 30 days.

When the C130 lands and stops, you are escorted off the aircraft and left at the airfield (in Haiti when I first heard this story).

So there you are, in Haiti, with 10 bucks in your pocket and the sun is setting.

Maybe you’ll get back home in a month no worse for wear.

Maybe you won’t survive the first night.

That’s the reality of daily life for billions of people...except they don’t have a ten spot in their pocket.

You give a person a fish, what happens,. Now, if you give them a fishing pole, ..... But, you will not get it.

I would think after that experience you would have a reason to understand what you would need to do for your future. I flew around in a Ch-47 in Vietnam getting shot at, I guarantee you that once I made it home from that experience I was highly motivated.

A high-profile universal basic income experiment in Stockton, Calif., which gave randomly selected residents $500 per month for two years with no strings attached, measurably improved participants' job prospects, financial stability and overall well-being, according to a newly released study of the program's first year.

You miss the point.

I know in my life experience I was never denied access to working capital.

Timing, such as being born in the 1950s, and luck, being born a white male in a G7 country, certainly helped.

Many people are very motivated.

Unfortunately, they will never pull themselves out of poverty, no matter how hard they pull up on their metaphorical bootstraps.

The wealthiest individuals are typically not the most talented or anywhere near it. “The maximum success never coincides with the maximum talent, and vice-versa,” say the researchers.

So if not talent, what other factor causes this skewed wealth distribution? “Our simulation clearly shows that such a factor is just pure luck,” say Pluchino and co.

That's true if you're a believer in the Banana Republic system of government where there are a few rich families and everyone else is dirt poor and have to take any job they are offered regardless of health hazards that job may entail just to be able to eat today. This is what not having a living wage brings about. "Work hard" doesn't succeed if you can't get employment, or be able to afford education to get employment, or if certain parts of the population are paid less just because they are part of that group. It's true that there are things today that didn't exist 200 years ago, but many of these things (cars, cellphones, etc.) are required to get and maintain a job.

Sorry for many, the issue is they do not want to work, called welfare, food stamps, and now bidens socialism
You are literally arguing against reality. Do you understand percentages? 6% unemployment, a certain percentage of which are looking for work, means that 94%+, the vast majority, or many, do want to work. You can't keep repeating a lie in the hope it becomes true.

Do you understand numbers are always played with. If you are not looking for work, you are not even counted. Etc. Believe what you want, thats fine, but quit trying to tell others with your bullying only you can be right.
