Half shaft - winding material?

Hello,

I was taking a pic of my motor plate and I noticed in the photo that there is some wire material that appears wrapped around the half shaft.

Does anyone know if this is something coming apart and I should be worried or if it's just something that got caught in there from driving and may or may not be of concern?
