From the specs, I think two Polaris IPLD1/0-3 connectors (which are smaller than the IPLD3/0-3) should work on my 3ga wires.
I found an 8"x6"x4" steel box that nicely fits in my available space. It seems like the connectors and wiring should fit. I may use a smaller uninsulated connector for the 8ga.

No problem. The giant blue wire nuts usually work well for the #8 grounds.
