I ordered the P90D with all options selected, 7 seats, ludicrous, premium packages etc. but I selected the black Onix wheel instead of the silver 22 or just regular 20 inch wheels. Can this cause delay to mid 2016? Anyone on this forum who ordered P90D with black Onix wheel has received a VIN yet?

My model X:
reserved: July 14, res #: 11,xxx
Confirmed: 1/4/16

No Vin yet!

i think the better question is how many ordered the black onyx and got a vin...

Pretty much fully loaded P90DL without VIN yet. People finalized after me already got theirs. The black onyx wheel is definitely what's holding it up.

This is what i am afraid of. I will give a call to Tesla to switch out the black onix wheel to have a earlier delivery date. Do all other wheels qualify for the early 2016 delivery? Only the Black Onix wheels are affected or all 22 inch wheels are affected?

My loaded P90D with the Black Onyx Wheels confirmed before Christmas, and is still waiting for a VIN. I did get a Delivery Specialist assigned yesterday though.

Wow thanks! This is very important information. I believe people who select this option with P90D will be delivered around same time as 90D customers. I will be calling Testla to change my black wheel to silver and pay the $500. I absolutely can not stand to wait another half a year because of the wheel. I just hate Tesla does things so family style business, it will be very nice to tell customer if this option is selected, you will be delayed. I did not see any message regarding the wheel at the time of configuration. Very disappointed!

Just emailed Tesla regarding the Black Onix wheel delay and change to 22 inch silver turbine wheel if it does. Let's see what Tesla has to say hopefully tomorrow.

I ordered the Onyx wheels and I have a VIN. My VIN was assigned around 12/24. Order was confirmed 12/1. I have been told by my Delivery Specialist that I have not yet entered production. On the My Tesla page, my delivery shows "February - early March"

Be careful not to draw conclusions. I have the Black Onyx rims, and have no VIN. However, keep in mind NO ONE has received a VIN since January 22, which was the last pubic documented VINs were issued. So, there may be a limited supply of 22 inch Black Onyx available, but for some reason, Tesla has issued no VINs in the last 3 weeks. Hopefully, VIN Wednesday will continue soon.

Got a call back from Tesla, i assume it's their building team. They said the black onix wheel might not be the cause of delay, it's the entire model x production line is getting build. They told me it's up to me to change to silver or not but it might not make much different in term of early delivery. I will try to talk to my DS again today and see what he knows. The beauty of talking to Tesla employees is like not talking to them at all, there is so little valuable information from them.

I have spoken to a SC in Tennessee and Florida as well as Tesla corporate over the past week. I have been trying to find out if there is any particular option that we chose, such as black wheels or white seats, that is causing a delay in being assigned our VIN (confirmed mid-December). They all stated there is no option that is causing the delay, just that they have to work all the Signature vehicles off the line and then setup for the Production models. Believe it or Not, at least they have been consistent in their explanation. I asked all three about ballpark delivery times and they said it will probably be two month for the P90Ds to start being delivered.

You are getting bad info. My production has been built for weeks and is in QA. And some production vehicles are starting to get delivered this and next week from what I read here.

Read It and Weep (or not)

Response to my question about waiving the $500 change fee for changing from black onyx to silver....So I guess TM is willing to wait until July? to get my $148,000 instead of foregoing a $500 "fee" and getting it now.

if any one can figure that out please let me know.

"I have contacted my direct manager, and my regional manager about the $500 modification fee for your Model X. We were just recently made aware of a timing constraint regarding the 22’’ onyx wheels. However, there is no flexibility to waive the modification fee, as the change comes at a cost to Tesla, as we have to re-sequence your vehicle."

Hi
Did you get a sure answer that the black onix wheel is the hold up? I talk to them again about 30 min ago which is the third phone calsl and one email i have done with Tesla Today. They insist that the black wheel will not affect the delivery date that much. I highly double it though. Here is the tricky part, if you are changing from back to silver, there is still no guarantee of your model x be delivered early because they have to resequenced your position. This might improve or future delay your model x. Tesla also give me a delivery window of all P90D model Xs to be delivered between March to June. So i am assuming even with the black wheel shortage, we should still receive our car before June at the latest (finger crossed).

Last bad news to threw out, there might be more shortage on other parts of the car. If we change things around, still can not guarantee an early delivery, who knows what other parts will be short again. Patience is the only thing we can do right now and the only thing I don't have.

I get mixed signals from TM. Some say black onyx wheels not a problem, others (such as my DS) just the opposite. I really don't care if I get it now or July, I am just surprised for order who has not even been assigned a VIN that any change would require "re-sequencing" whatever that means and that TM is unwilling to consider waiving the $500 to make a sale sooner rather than later.

The reason Tesla not willing to waive the $500 is because they know you want the car (badly), and to change anything to the car when it's in order stage will require manufacturing re-adjustment. This will cause money. So they don't want to lose that $500 when they know you will give them 150K anyway. My real concern is the fact even you pay the $500, you are not guaranteed to be delivered early. There is also possibility to be delayed even more due to re-sequencing (Rumor). Like i said in the previous post, Tesla is the only company i talked to so far in my life that will give you a very good customer service with no valuable information. The employees over at Tesla know little to nothing because no one in Tesla seems to know what's going on. Just build the damn car with whatever materials they currently have and delay the rest. I am just keeping the black wheel for now, who knows what parts they will be short the next day. Model X is the most beautiful and most frustrated car i have ordered in my life.
