GM's Cruise tweets cryptic message, plans announcement on January 21

What it says is the most GM would do in the next decade is to put a few vehicles like this into inter-terminal, inter-campus transportation and call its self driving program a success.

Still a great car. People now have a second choice in addition to Leaf as a dedicated urban commute car.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

That's a smart move. It at least leveled the playing field somewhat when Tesla still does not do commercials. For traditional auto companies if you dare to write a critical piece you will never be invited to expense paid future product release anymore.

Is Tesla changing warranty terms again, reducing coverage retroactively? [Website Error]

The op says the change is retroactive. The website does not say it. Which case is right?

If you consider SEC's action against Elon's going private tweet one tweet from the orange man moves the $40 trillion US stock market whether they are real or fake. SEC is fine with that.

Tesla Takes Tug-of-War With Ford to Twitter

No matter how they want do it the electric will always win (despite what that video says). They are probably regretting the challenge now. It does not matter. Elon will redo it anyway.

Not to mention the utility is 100x better than the Y. Of curse there are many who for whatever reasons have the sheet metal as priority even for a truck. They are probably not ready for a truck anyway.

Can't believe I have to wait for so many posts to see one that is (sort of) an approval. Didn't anyone even notice what Elon says the truck has an outside dimension no bigger than regular trucks but can carry way more passengers and payloads? It does take a little to get used to the look but...

Don't know if Chinese would be watching the unveiling. Pickups are not that popular in China but then again there may be a lot of Chinese buying the Cybertruck as the latest status symbol.

It's said to still be in the last year of the 3 year development cycle. Did you notice those specs are only "targeted"?

    Model Y vs. Mustang GTE

Did anyone notice every spec of the Ford is "target" and not final. I'm not so sure Ford is that confident on pricing and delivery either. From what I understand it's still not out of the development cycle yet. We'll see how this goes.
  19. CarlK

    Model Y vs. Mustang GTE

So what? Ford and for that matter every major automaker build cars all over the world. Tesla only sell Fremont built cars in the US.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I got a feeling this Ford thing was put together in a hurry to counter Tesla's Cybertruck unveiling. Ford is far from ready for an announcement otherwise. It does seem to work here.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Reviews only influence sales but not pricing. People outside the US don't even read CR. Tesla's strategy seems to be continue to lower price as supply becomes better. It after all is Tesla's mass market car. CR can continue to not recommending Tesla and Tesla will continue to sell cars...

Window damaged trim because of cold weather, Tesla won't replace under warranty

Find a solution yourself instead of automatically try to blame others. Remember you're not the first or only person who has a car like this. And especially your car can be programmed to turn on the heat before you need to drive away. Try to make the seal clean all the time. It should help...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

It was just a big slap on CR's face. It has been very tough on Tesla and too friendly on reviewing its competitions (like Audi' E-Tron). The thing is other than $TSLAQ type no one cared or believed what it says. People kept buying the car. The longer CR does that the more of its irreverence...

There's one more thing. Every new Tesla plant or line will be (significantly) more efficient than existing ones. Elon has never forgotten his align dreadnought machine that makes machine idea, even that he does not talk about that much after got burned once. The China Model 3 and GF3 Model 3...

2014 P85 or 2013 P85+ please advise which one to buy

Stock 2020 Vette looks to have lower 0-60 time vs P3.

Yes mid-engine is the best you can have for an ICE, especially if it has rear wheel drive. That said it still can't touch the dual motor skidpad design. Just simple physics.

    Autonomous Car Progress

Glad there is someone actually is watching those and trying to learn some real science. 18:55 and 19:57 in that video is a good sample of deep learning and how it can be used to learn "body language" of cars and pedestrians on the road (at parking lot, stop signs, unmarked lanes, pedestrian...

    Autonomous Car Progress

Yes you should stay out of this since I see you at least as a reasonable person and don't always argue for argument's sake. I could be wrong though. No one, let me repeat NO ONE else except Tesla has vision deep learning neural net in operation and likely to have one in the near future (beyond...

    Autonomous Car Progress

One word "Geofensed". Waymo and Waymo types using Lidar and HD mapping do not operate in any place that is not fully (and newly) mapped. That also means they can "test" in parking lots but they will not be able to "operate" in parking lots like Tesla can do now.
  34. CarlK

    Autonomous Car Progress

Tesla does not need to report to CA DMV because it can run cars under the "shadow mode" while car is still driven by a real driver. It is even more powerful than those test cars Waymo and others are running. You can do everything other test cars do, and even more, without sending final output...

    Autonomous Car Progress

Start to learn basics and stop to make your own invention. Deep learning does not learn the same thing over and over again. Soon as a case is solved then it's done unless situation changed. A large data set if only needed to find more edge cases to solve. At least watch Karpathy's...

They do not do FSD yet but they do perform many of the functions under autopilot. FSD can be, and will be, turned on when the system matures through continuous deep learning. Many people say that because it's fashionable. No one is capable of actually doing it though. The basic requirement...

    Autonomous Car Progress

True. You could still label them as billion miles edge cases or trillion mile edge cases and not to worry about those statistically would almost never occur. Even Tesla probably will need to collect another order of magnitude data, I believe it has about 2 billion miles of data right now, to...

    Autonomous Car Progress

Lol no wonder. You really need to have your head examined for its mental state. Only remote monitoring, the same as how in car safety engineers do, was said by me about Waymo. Remote controlling of course can be done too but no one has accused of Waymo of doing that.
  40. CarlK

    Autonomous Car Progress

I don't think anyone has said they remotely "control" the car 1:1. We were only talking about remotely "monitor" the car like they do with in car "safety engineer" now. They will only take over when in an emergency and when the car is confused. Everything discussed was for remote "monitoring"...
  41. CarlK

    Autonomous Car Progress

This shows it's pretty much mandatory since none of them, Waymo and everyone else except Tesla, has implemented real deep learning which requires huge fleet data to learn all edge cases the car might encounter.
  42. CarlK

    Autonomous Car Progress

When you can remotely control a drone thousands miles away this would not be too much of technical challenge. Besides we are talking about "monitored" not "controlled" although some degrees of control could be done too. As for cost I don't think that will stop Waymo from doing it. It's not a...

    Autonomous Car Progress

Those extra staff can always be assigned to do other things when uses is lighter.
  44. CarlK

    Autonomous Car Progress

You have answered your own question. Even if you need 100% head count at peak hours it still beats "safety engineer" in every car all the time. It's a natural progress not just to save money. Remote monitoring and controlling is just so easy to do. It's still a progress but not what Waymo...
  45. CarlK

    Autonomous Car Progress

Even 1:1 is not stupid. The remote monitoring is only needed when the car is running. Current "safety engineers" need to be staying with the car the entire shift. As @DanCar pointed out you can hire some very low wage personnel to do remote monitoring too.

Tesla model Y will kill the crossover competition

Model Y will kill ICE competitions like Macan, Q5, X5, GLC class and RX, MDX in performance and value. Some of those companies will come out with electric versions but judging from what we've seen they are still way behind Tesla and not going to be able to have truly competitive EV models. As...
  47. CarlK

    Autonomous Car Progress

Why? Just let the car to run free is not stupid? I seriously doubt Waymo is not remotely monitoring each and every car so they could apply necessary actions when there is a need.
  48. CarlK

    Autonomous Car Progress

I bet you it's not true "driverless". The "safety engineer" instead of sitting inside the car is in a remote control center somewhere watching the car run every second. Pretty easy to figure out. Good PR stunt though.
  49. CarlK

    Autonomous Car Progress

Both are more daring than the rest but the similarity stops right there.

    Apple CarPlay

Agreed. Voice controlled operation is the only additional feature I would like too. For that Carplay would not help either. Or when Tesla becomes as big as Apple or Google and has resources to develop even better integrated drive control and infotainment interface. That I believe is the plan.
