I'm hoping this is the final update - behold - the electrician has installed the below this morning - are we any closer....

That looks fine for the required Type B RCD protection, with over-current protection being provided by the 32 A MCB in the CU. The contactor is being operated by the open PEN device in the box, as before, so all is now as it should be.
