Splitter! Splitter!

On I-55 Southaven, MS splits 239.4 miles, 84 miles from Grenada, MS, 156.2 miles to Miner, MO.
This is #2 on the list!

On I-69-ish Southaven, MS splits 280.1 miles, 84.1 miles from Brinkley, AR, 203.7 miles to Kuttawa, KY.
(Brinkley, AR isn't on I-69, but because it's all future from Houston, TX to MIssissippi, Brinkley, AR is on the fastest route between Nacogdoches, TX (future I-69) and Kuttawa, KY.)

I also added the Tulsa, OK pathetic splitter to the #1 in the table. But the gap from Wichita Falls, TX to Tulsa, OK will still be #1 when Tulsa, OK opens.

Pathetic splitter on I-69/Future I-69, splitting 148.5 miles, 22.7 miles from Houston - W Alabama St, TX and 128.9 miles to Nacogdoches, TX.

Around here we call "capacity fillers" by the name of "pathetic splitters!!"
I know. I just see non sense in grousing that a hammer doesn't work well driving in screws.
It isn't fair to complain ('pathetic'?) when there is no intent by Tesla to split anything.
Clearly, there are are 3 reasons to install a new Supercharger:
- increase capacity - enable folks to go to new places.
- increase coverage - reduce waiting time
- fill gaps (about which this thread excellently covers)

I'm confused on these. First off, it looks like the name versus description are reversed on the first two. But really, I only see two categories instead of three. You're either placing in areas where there weren't any to enable better route coverage, or you're placing in areas where there already were some, which is additional capacity. What is the difference between: fill gaps versus "enable folks to go to new places"?

Yes, it is the classic argument of "capability" vs "capacity". Capability improvements in this context says they can cover new geographic areas. Whereas Capacity improvements allow for lots of folks to do the more highly travelled areas at the same time. Compare adding more DCFC in remote portions of Alaska (capability) to adding/expanding sites on I5 between the Bay Area and Los Angeles (capacity).

You just described capacity in two different ways. Why is that two supposedly different things out of a list of three?

Can I take a shot at it? One thing might be more stalls at the exact same place or within 1 or 2 miles. It's fully redundant.

But then another is for where a route is technically just barely covered if people hypermile and push their range, and then an extra place is located 80 or 100 miles from an endpoint to put a little more choice and fallback and reliability in case one location goes out of order so the route can still be used.

Is that what you mean?

This thread is called Largest Gaps Between Superchargers on US Interstates.

Never mind the quality, feel the lack of width.

But again, for others reading, the term "pathetic" isn't complaining. I think it came with Asheville - Thetford St that shrunk the Great Chasm of I-26 from 252 to 248 miles. I logged it anyway and the Pathetic Splitter was born. (The word was due to indirectly being reminded of the Pathetic Sharks from British comic strip magazine Viz). "Splitter!" itself is also used as a reference to The Life of Brian.

Not sure how I described capacity in two different ways. But yes. Note in your latter case, the extra location not only adds capacity, it also adds capability - since one can then hypermile ever farther than the original endpoint. It also allows cars which weren't originally capable of reaching the endpoint, the possibility of doing it.

Splitter! on Future I-69E, Refugio, TX splits 102.9 miles, 67.8 from Kingsville - E Corral Ave, TX, 35.2 miles to End at US-59 Victoria, TX.

Tulsa, OK added to Open list. It was a Pathetic Splitter! on I-44 of the #1 Interstate gap. So pathetic that the Tulsa, OK Supercharger is now at the end of the #1 gap, 242.1 miles from the start in Wichita Falls, TX. For people traveling this route, Oklahoma City, OK is a Diversion, adding 10.5 miles and 18 minutes. (If they could get one at the Loves in Northeast Oklahoma City that would be an excellent Splitter and would be on 2 Interstates.)

On the Socorro, NM thread @PLUS EV asked if I had a list of gaps 140 miles or greater.

Of course I do!
I posted there, but I figured I'd create a separate thread for it.

MAJOR EDIT:
Reorganized to::
1) Top 25 regular gaps not yet split
2) Gaps on "Future Interstates" or current fastest route between open segments
3) Open Splitters

Add Flagstaff AZ to Farmington NM. It's 275 mi via Rte 160 through the Navajo Reservation. One of many off-the-main-interstate highways tourists use. Stay on I40 if you just want to get from A to B.

This thread is about the Interstates. Non-Interstate is a whole different ball game. There's over 500 locations needed just to reduce US Numbered Highway gaps to less than 100 miles, let alone every route in the country.

It's alive! Another Ohio opening!

West Chester Township, OH added to open list.
On I-75 (Just) pathetic Splitter! of 122.6 miles, 22 miles from Cincinnati, OH and 103.7 miles from Lima, OH.
So now adds the 103.7 miles to be split. There is an 11 mile/16 minute diversion to Superchargers in Dayton, OH (v2) and 14.4 miles/20 minutes Beavercreek, OH so not the worst gap, but Piqua, OH would split it nicely at I-75/US-36.

72 gaps remaining larger than 100 miles. 3 Construction, 12 Permit on Supercharge.info.

On I-75 (Just) pathetic Splitter! of 122.6 miles, 22 miles from Cincinnati, OH and 103.7 miles from Lima, OH.

(Thanks for all this work)
But now that all this data exists, maybe there is another important way to slice and dice the numbers. :)
Let's say you are going from A to B to C and the Supercharger at B is closed for some reason. Maybe we would call this an unsplitter. It would be interesting to know the list of the most critical unsplitter Superchargers on a route. This also makes some of the so-called pathetic splitters actually very important, because one of these just 22 miles from point B makes the point B charger not so critical anymore.

Note: A closed Supercharger happened to me last summer. It was actually noted on the map as closed for maintenance something like 9am - 3pm. However I didn't see it since I was out of cell range in a Natl park when I entered the route. And when the cell connection comes back you don't get a noticeable warning. I actually arrived at the SC at about 2:45pm and a Tesla tech was sitting in his van, waiting for the power company to turn the power back on and he'd been done for over an hour just waiting. It actually didn't affect my trip, but would have if it was a critical unsplitter.
