Let's do a spreadsheet for the 31st!

SSHHHHHH, the mall walkers thing is our little forum secret. I even did the digging to let you know which parking garage and mall entrance were open at 7am.
I remember that post, but I can't find it now - can you re-post? All I can find on the Mall's site is "Walkers may enter through D2, Ruby Escalator entrance after 7:00 AM Monday - Saturday, and after 8:30 AM on Sundays." - Whereever "D2 Ruby" is...

I forget where...maybe the only place I put it WAS the spreadsheet.

Basically, enter the parking garage near Nieman Marcus (it's labeled D2). I believe once you're inside, the escalator is labeled "Ruby".

I may scout it out before then. But that's what I've scraped together.

As no horse is too dead I was just contacted by my local store (White Plains,NY) via email and I'd thought I'd share:

Hello,

I hope this message finds you well. We recently spoke on the phone regarding the Model 3 and what the reservations would be like. I will be sending you some updates soon on that but I just thought I might brief you on what will be happening on the 31st.

Reservations for Model 3 will begin at 10am, when our showroom here in The Westchester will open for the day. We are expecting a bit of a line, so please keep that in mind when planning out your time here. There are two reservations allowed per person, and each reservation is $1000. This is a fully refundable deposit that secures your place in line, and each reservation will need its own credit card for payment. The actual designs of the car will not be available until later that night (they are being released at an event in California on the evening of the 31st, so please mind the time difference) but many of our followers and current owners have such confidence in all we're doing here at Tesla that they are fine with reserving before seeing the designs.

Please let me know if you have any more questions about the reservation process or Model 3. We are so excited about your interest in Tesla and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Any other useful info you can provide? I've never been to Natick, nevermind the mall, and wouldn't know the first thing about parking, navigating the mall, etc.

I'm coming up from the Hartford area via 84-E to 90-E. Tips for avoiding traffic? I just hate driving anywhere in MA, and want this experience to go as smoothly as possible.

If you are coming early enough for the mall to still be closed (earlier than 10am), then I would park in the garage (D2) in the Northeast corner of the mall, near Nieman Marcus (Nouvelle St and Spleen St) on the map.

If you're coming anytime after that, your best bet for parking is anywhere near the Southwest corner of the mall (Macy's) near Mall Rd and Rte 9.

I really wish there were tips for avoiding traffic on a Thursday morning in MA in March....I'd use them myself.

Just to flesh it out some more:

After you exit I-90 (exit 13), you'll go through the tolls, and then immediately afterward you'll need to bear left onto RT-30 east. In typical Massachusetts fashion, you'll have barely enough road to make this maneuver without enraging everyone else around you. As their horns blare and profanities fill the air, just take a deep breath and know you'll be placing your reservation within a few short minutes. ;)

After merging onto RT-30, turn right onto Speen Street (first major intersection). About a half mile down that road is a traffic light next to the Nieman Marcus building. Turn right there onto the mall access road, bear right at the first rotary, go under the pedestrian bridge, and at the next rotary, take the second exit (at about 10 o'clock). At this point, you'll see Macy's on your left, so take your next left and find parking. Enter through Macy's, make your way to the left into the main mall, and the Tesla store will be a few storefronts down on your left. (There's a Starbucks a little further down to the right, FWIW.)

If you're a visual person, you can actually drive the above route in Google Streeview,

Thanks for the added detail. I live in N. Central MA, so if i have mall-related needs, I usually end up in tax-free NH. I only rarely make the trip to Natick.

Excellent info! I take it you've driven this route a couple times? ;)

Thanks to the both of you. What's the deal for parking? I assume any garages are gonna cost me an arm and a leg. I'm used to pleasant CT malls with plenty of free outdoor parking lots. I have no idea if the mall area is typically super congested.

We've had a lot more vandalism since the spreadsheet became more well-known. I keep making private backups so I can undo most of the damage, but unfortunately I didn't have a backup with your entry.

Thanks so much Microfrost for dealing with the unruly bunch that did lots of damage but you have saved the day.

I did a "protect sheet" on the original sheet "raw data" and renamed it as "Protected Data" for now.

I was thinking to have an input sheet so people can enter at the bottom.

Copy new additions to the "Protected Data"

Then Protect Ranges for those "Inputs" that were already copied over.

That way, if we lose, we only lose the new uncopied bottom entries.

If anyone would like to have full access for editing including protecting sheets, please e-mail me your gmail address.

Mine is [email protected] .

Thanks.

...moving...

That's a great idea.

However, I still want a sense of community as people can still comment on notes and comment on comments at the Input sheet.

So, I decide to have 2 copies: 1 with limited entries, 1 with no entries allowed (just like a backup drive that people don't need to be aware of.)

Microfrost!!!!

Please trouble shoot why

"Aix en Provence, France" does not auto-tally or auto-appear?

Thanks.

Unless you park in the "premium parking" or valet, it's free.

I did a scouting run this afternoon while I was over at Home Depot and took some pictures...

And for the visual people:

After you turn right onto Speen Street, you're looking for the traffic light immediately before Nieman Marcus (after you pass the Home Depot light, with HD on the left and the EZ Storage on the right). Turn right at this light, just before Nieman Marcus:

If you're planning to show up early, don't go to the rotary and main entrance as Bokonon suggests above. Turn left into D parking that is just ahead (~100 yards):

When you turn into the garage, there's a fork. You can go left (up) or right (down). Go left, up to level D2:

At the top of the ramp, look 45 degrees to the left (ie, 10 o'clock). The red glow is the magical ruby entrance, for the 7 am mall walking crowd. Each entrance is enclosed in different colored glass.

Take the ruby escalator up one level. Go straight ahead off the escalator and turn left after passing the back corner of the Burberry store and the mall directory sign. To get to the Tesla store, basically walk along following/hugging the right wall until you come to a store with a red car in it. You can't miss it.;)

Bathrooms are immediately after Tesla, down the hall on the right.

When I stopped by this afternoon, I spoke briefly with Brian (?). He said absolutely, positively, they are taking deposits when the store opens at 10am ET. They have been talking with mall security about expecting a crowd (he says the get "a hundred" calls a day about the 31st), but he wasn't sure exactly how early arrivals (between 7 and 10) would be handled.

EDIT - I should add, there is an Apple store in the mall (2 doors down from the Microsoft store), so this can't be the first time giddy tech geeks show up early to line up.
