MCU Flash Memory Wear?

I've asked Tesla staff while the car's been in for service and they were pretty mum on the topic. But yeah, have heard those rumours for awhile. I'd do it assuming the cost isn't exorbitant.
They quoted me $4500 to replace my MCU1 (before they realised mine just needed firmware flashing).
I would guess MCU2 would cost about the same.
Not exactly cheap ... might be worth putting that towards a new car.
