Model 3 Range in NZ

In NZ Tesla use NEDC figures for range. So the range for the Model 3 is listed like this:
Standard range + 460 km (285 m)
Long Range 620 km (385 m)
Performance 560 km (348 m)

In the US the figures are:
SR+ 250 miles (403 km)
LR 322 miles (518 km)
Perf 299 miles (418 km)

Due to our asphalt and our hilly terrain even the US figures are a stretch for NZ roads. I doubt there is anywhere in NZ where you could drive 400 km at or near the speed limit and actually get there on a single charge in an SR+; and yet the stated range is 460. Come on Tesla use someone's testing methods that are at least possible to achieve.

Unfortunately, at the moment, EPA testing standard, a.k.a US standard/US range, is the closest to real-world conditions comparing to NEDC and WLTP.

As a user/buyer, you should bear in mind that the factory specifications are only an indication, measured in conditioned testing. Road conditions and driving habits play a big role as well to the achievable range of the vehicle. This applies to ICE vehicle, i.e. 6L/100km in specification vs 8-9 L/100km in the real world.

I have a Performance light model and just took it to Queenstown from Christchurch. I got 420kms out of it, it was cold, raining the whole way and I don’t try and conserve energy. The whole way I had warnings to restrict speed to below 95km/h to ensure I would make it from Christchurch to Omarama Supercharger but I did get there relatively easily.

Cold plus hills seems to be a bad combination. Did a 210k stretch last night, starting on 93%, and only scraped home on 21k remaining. Admittedly the car was full, and had the ski racks on, and driving slow is not my thing, but still.

I just drove to whakatane from Auckland at the speed limit and reached here with 27% charge left. That is 115km with a stated 295km left.

Sorry 115km left. I seem to typically get around 380km to 410km range on a trip at the speed limit. My car says 432km range at full charge but used to say 439km and it should be 60kw battery pack. It shows 432 now after 20,000km. It seems odd to me that full range shows only 439 when new when I expected it to show the wltp range but when converted mine was EPA. Car is march 2022 ordered Boxing Day 21.

So many factors at play... outside temperature (remember battery need to be heated/cooled all the time for optimal performance)... use of aircon takes away a bit... any traffic build-up in city takes some more away... same as any car, regardless of fuel type.
I had Northshore to Paihia started at 100% and reached with 27% left...
