Factoring in sales tax and the fact the buyer of the used vehicle is unable to take the federal tax credit nor any available state incentives (state incentives which you would have to repay in CA if you took them yourself), you'd be extremely hard pressed to turn a profit.

I don't know how long you've been around Tesla's but in 2013 and much of 2014 used Model S's were selling for more than new Model S's because you could have them now rather than wait. If the Model 3 backorder is similar I could see the same scenario playing out. You wouldn't necessarily be making money but you could potentially lose a nominal amount of money relative to a normal car.

I'm not sure I'd plan on that panning out though. Tesla seems to be ramping things up much quicker with the 3.
