Model S Plaid Track Package Waiting Room

Hi Track packers,
my ride is in today for the full upgrade. I was told first in this NJ SC, maybe even NJ. Said it will take 3 days. I spoke with the mechanics and they were quite knowledgable about the Hydra 406 brake fluid, knuckles, and bedding. Will update on the install and the braking performance.
cheers

Did the box happen to include the installation bulletin and associated documentation?
Didn’t open boxes since I’m canceling the order but there’s 4 calipers, 4 rotors, 4 brake shields, and a lot of brake fluid. This stuff is a fraction of the weight of OE brakes.

Installed!! Took three days.
IMG_8804.jpeg

Question for those with the pack: My Track Mode screen looks the same as it ever was. Forgot to check software version before I took it in but I still have FSD 11.4.4 which makes me think I didn’t get the software unlock. Anybody else know what I should see here? I was expecting the circle readout instead of the Xray image showing the battery temp when throwing into track mode.

Also biggest difference I’m noticing is a very stiff brake pedal and small pedal travel. Very different from the standard plaid brakes.

Congrats!

Under the “additional vehicle info” in the “software update” tab you should see CCB as brake system

There is no “special” firmware for track package instead Tesla changes the so called “configuration” file to “unlock” the top speed and CCB related tuning (brake pedal stiffness/travel and updated suspension tuning in track mode)

Ah indeed it's there! I feel a bit better. The reason I'm worried is that I don't see the top speed in my Track Mode screen and I don't see the new 20" rims on the 3D car model. I don't have the option to select them either in the Service>Tire page either. For now it shows me running Arachnids.

i think you are not seeing the zero-g because the menu is the part of firmware and since the rims came out later than your current firmware

Thanks for sharing. Can you take a pick of the rear wheels showing the parking brake and clearance best you can? Mine is in for the install and they are saying there is a wheel clearance issue with the parking brake even though I have 21's. They are very high quality aftermarket ones and I don't see how if the 20" Zero-G will fit there is an issue with my 21's. I get the who offset discussion but it doesn't make sense what they are telling me.

Unfortunately they won't let back to look at the car and they won't proceed until I provide a set of 21" Arachnids or 20" Zero-G wheels. Thanks for any photos you can send that might show the rear calipers and the attached parking brake.

On a side note, I did get to hold the rear caliper assembly in my hand and it is light as hell for its size. It is totally car porn. It may not be a cheap upgrade but it is definitely worth it.

Hi I hope these two images help you. I amped the brightness on the closeup. The space between the caliper and the rim is something you’d measure in millimeters. There’s slightly more space on the parking brake but not much. It’s a tight fit and comparable to the wheel weight seen in the brightened image.

What are the off sets of your signatures? The Arachnids are +40 front and +45 rear. Anything at that oddest or less should fit fine. Most 21” Signatures Jamie specs are in the +37 range.

I don't think the offset has any issue with it, possibly, but unlikely. My fitment is very flush and they are very concave. Normally you would think the spokes might hit the caliper or something else. What they are say is the parking brake is actually gouging the inside barrel of the wheel.

I don't think this is a Signature specific issue hence the reason I didn't mention brand in my post. I did reach out to Jamie to get feedback and he has been nothing but helpful. You couldn't ask for more TBH.

So a few things don't seem right but I can't investigate more until I get the car back. In general 21's should have at least a 1/2" more clearance than 20's. Even if the barrel of my wheel is a bit thicker, the fact that I have a 21" should give me more clearance. They said if mounted the parking brake would actual gouge the inner face of the rear wheel barrel.

I don't see how this can be as I work through the fitment scenarios. There is one or two possible ones but they aren't that likely. So I don't want to speculate. Once I get the car back, I'll try and fit my wheels again, take some measurements and see what the issue is and provide updates. Jamie is willing to work with me to help find a solution. I absolutely don't want to go with the Zero-G wheels and would love to keep a set of Signature wheels on my car. From what I understand, there have been no issues with SV104s and already a success

Thanks, this is very helpful. Definitely tight but 21's should provide even more clearance.

I tried to get Tesla to weigh them but they wouldn't. Maybe since @tij664 still has his in boxes he could weigh them.

There should be significant savings in unsprung mass vs. the stock parts. I wish the rest of the Plaid was high quality as this brake system is.

They fit or they don’t. Quality of wheels has nothing to do with clearance. Even if the outer diameter is 21” the inner barrel can be just about any size within reason. Tesla had their fixed measurements in hand and designed the big arse brake kit around these known values.

Once you go aftermarket it’s wild Wild West.

Good luck!

I am not equating quality with fitment. For a lightweight forged wheel, the barrel can't be massive (within limit) or the weight would be much higher due to the extra material. In general, I agree there could be a thicker barrel and the 21" wheel could be smaller than you might think. I don't think these wheels have an extra half inch of barrel and based on what Jamie told me, that isn't the case.

Anyway, it is all just speculation at this point and I hate to speculate. I should have the car back tomorrow as I've been able to short-term source Arachnids to get it finished off and do some measurements later.

I don't want to sidetrack Tesla's focus and get the best install I can. I can sort out the wheel problem later but having the CCB installed correctly is my #1 priority. Since I am the beta tester for this service center, I am already a bit more on edge. I am definitely going to approach the limits of these brakes carefully when I get them back to make sure any issues are caught before they could be catastrophic.

I’m in the same boat dude. My brake kit appt is later this month. First TSC visit. Don’t know any of the techs. Trust is an issue. Are they capable? Do they give af? If they chip any of the rotors on install, do they have the integrity to disclose? If there’s a bed in procedure, will they do it correctly and also not bin my 300 miles young MSP? Will my car come back exactly as I had left it in their care?

Never boring!

I have the same concerns. I have 4,500-ish miles on my Tesla, and everything still works perfectly. I am going to ask to speak to the tech who is working on mine to ensure he/she knows that this car is my baby and I hope they treat it well. In the end however, it is an absolute crap shoot when it comes to the quality of the work.
