Model S Refresh: License Holder Part of Bumper?

Sales rep say license holder is standard but can be unscrewed - doesn't know what it looks like underneath. This pic looks like license holder is molded into bumper.

Rep also says they had to include it because it was part of the crash test. Thoughts? I'm not happy about this since front license isn't required in my state.

Agree it's ugly for the places that don't need a front plate. Weird thing is it looks like the X doesn't have this molded in though?

I think this is different than the X because the S was crashed tested with the holder on and perhaps the X was not.

that makes more sense because not all 50 states require front plate.

In AZ, PA at least only issue 1 plate for rear.

I just hope they don't drill the bumper prior to the delivery. Because I dont want it !

From @Bjorn 's video, you can see that there is a lip that wraps around on the bottom. I would assume it is attached on the bottom, with no visible holes on the front.

just confirmed with DS that it mounts underneath. Removable with no holes left.

I guess we will see sooner or later..Mine doesn't get delivered till end of May. I am sure someone will post pic of their own car shortly.

This is just like the Corvette plate mount that screws in under the bumper intake.

I went to Sunnyvale location yesterday and they had a refreshed model on display.
The plate mount is bolted through under the bumper as well as front of the bumper.

I was recommended to contact DS immediately to not to install the front plate mount..

Are you absolutely sure that it is bolted to the front of the bumper? My DS says the hold is bolted to the backing plate only, not the bumper. And it isn't possible to not have it installed as it comes from the factory installed.
