Model X Adaptive Suspension Test Drive

I have a P100DL on order on 5/9. I mainly wanted to see if I should keep my order or look around inventory but he noted that they weren't supposed to do the free Ludicrous upgrade on inventory vehicles so he suggested I just keep my existing order. I've heard both ways, but it was nice to get to test drive in any case.

Actually I just ordered inventory model P100DL and got 38K off original price. 18k is from the inventory discount. It had 2k miles on it. And got 20k off from the ludicrous discount. Ended up paying 96k for it with full self driving and 21 inch wheels. Plus free lifetime supercharging!

So I want to tow and need all the range/efficiency I can get. The advisor also said they couldn't do the free ludicrous on inventory, though I know some people have gotten it.

Those things not considered, though, I probably wouldn't pay $10k for the new stuff anyways. It's nice, but for me personally I probably wouldn't pay more than 5k for it all else equal

Thank you for all your feedback on this new drivetrain. And, congrats on the upgrade!

It drove really nice! Not quite as huge of a difference as I was hoping, but it definitely softened it up driving on regular road. The "Sport" suspension setting was pretty much exactly what my X 75D was, perhaps a bit less roll in the corners even, and the standard setting just kinda dulled the road feel a good bit. Like it took the edge off, and did really well eating up cracks in the ground like the asphalt seal lines that were all over the place around there.

Acceleration was better than my X75D by a good bit (75D was 4.9 0-60 where this was 4.4), but it felt like the power hit the road more gradually. Like the 75D would have had the lead for the first 50 feet until the power was on in full on the new X. I tested it on Normal, Low, and High suspension settings and there was no shudder at any position. On that note, my X75D didn't have any either until 12,000 miles so that was kind of expected.

I've seen a few people say the suspension adjustment is quicker, I tested that out and if it is it's not by a significant amount.

So what are the HP and Torque figures on the refreshed long range? I've got mine coming on June 4 with the two tone wheels/5 seat cream interior. (Btw, that's a great photo you took of the interior. The wood looks very Scandinavian).

I ordered my XLR on Tuesday. According to the guy I spoke to, all of the new motor/suspension X's were on "regulatory hold" awaiting approval. That had just been obtained late last week and the shipping should start flowing pretty quickly. He also said the factory was "jammed up with a massive shipment to the EU".

Who knows what to believe, but that would explain all of the people that reported ordering when the refresh was announced and not receiving VINs/ship dates yet.

It'll be interesting to see if deliveries pick up over the next couple of weeks.

I'd heard the same thing from my sales advisor. As luck would have it they got in touch with me two days ago and I receive mine on June 4th.

So, if this is the case re regulatory hold, how is it that some folks have already received their cars?

When I spoke with the delivery specialist from Fremont, the regulatory hold is only on SR. She asked me if I wanted to upgrade to LR and she can assign a VIN right away and have it delivered next week. But I have already got the bank issue me the cashiers check(they would have to repeat the whole process if the VIN is assigned new). I have current Delivery rescheduled from 05/24 to 05/31. I hope they deliver next week :(

I'm sure it won't happen because it is brand new, but maybe put it in standard height and never lower and floor it to see if it has the dreaded shudder?
RE DREADED SHUDDER:
Have never been under a Tesla, but universal joints should run at an angle sufficient to distribute the lubricant and equalize the wear. Once there is sufficient wear in the joint that is a sufficient size to catch the ball or needle bearing, there will be a kick that can cause a shudder. This would be more so due to Tesla’s tremendous torque.

If my scenario is true, then running your suspension high or low for a time would distribute the lubricant before returning to the recommended level for high acceleration. Again this just speculation. Elon may be eliminating the off center run-angle to minimize friction. Elon needs to hire some retired mechanics and shop owners and restoration shop owners, some of his problems seem to be the kinds we had to deal with.

EPA range on refreshed X P100D is 305 miles vs 295 miles pre-refresh X 100D

You never know when that extra 3% of range will come in handy lol

Now the free ludicrous would have made my decision real easy
Ten miles is ten miles. The change may change charge rate which might be worth something depending on the lengths of your trips.

I figured the increased efficiency might be even more pronounced under load, similar to but how a big diesel can be more efficient than a small V6 once you put a 5 ton load on them both. if we're being honest the main draw is ludicrous though lol, that's a killer deal. I bought a X75D in Dec 17 for 101.5k, and now I've got an order for an identical Model upgraded to P100DL for $109.5k. Only 8k more. Definitely happy with the price compared to the last time I bought
I’m curious what Tesla offered you for your 75D. Paid 47k for my ‘19 model 3 LR and carmax offered me 36k yesterday! I was shocked! It’s barely 2 months old and 24% depreciation?? or maybe they don’t really want it so they offered a low price?

Sure! But my question is 35 miles more and mild (?) upgraded suspension worth the 10k?! We all know some people have deep pockets / unlimited funds and throwing in 10k to the newest thing is nothing.
It's well worth it if you live in the Prairie States where it's often 200 or more miles between SCs (and no sign that this will improve in the foreseeable future). In winter with reduced range from wind, cold, and bad weather, an additional 35 miles makes a real difference. It also makes a real difference in areas with high speed limits. If you live in Southern California--not so much.

It's worth it just for the extra range/efficiency. Unless you don't have $10K to be blowing on that kind of thing.

It's all relative to your specific situation, eh?
I would consider the major change in the new X/S is in the front axle motor which is PMSM (Permanent magnet synchronous motor) giving much higher efficiency, lower weight and better stop and go torque + range. But I don't know how do you feel that change while driving?

My lease on my 2016 90D is up next month and I was torn between buying that one or leasing a new MX. I just ordered a new long range model partially because of the suspension. As much as I like my car, the ride and cabin noise were a bit disappointing.

So I’m convinced the ride quality is better with the new suspension but what if anything did you observe about road noise? Is it less noticeable than your older MX? That’s one of my pet peeves. Hopefully you will tell me it is improved.
