Not a bad strategy. Gives you multiple options and only costs $100. Is the inventory configuration same as what you ordered? And if you don’t mind me asking, what is the price difference? Were they willing negotiate on the inventory car?

The inventory car was a slightly different config had 1,000 miles, and was slightly more expensive. It was about $4,000 off from original MSRP. Apparently Tesla doesn’t negotiate on new inventory anymore.

Yeah exact same. I would see what your OA says. Could be a chance the car is in transit. I remember with my 3, I didn’t get details of my VIN and delivery date until the week before delivery. Hope it works out for you.

My OA has been worthless. I chatted with Tesla and told them I was going to cancel my order - they had a delivery specialist follow up with an email. Here’s what they said:

Currently you are awaiting VIN assignment. California VINs are going to be the last to be matched due to the vehicle’s being manufactured there. East coast customers are receiving them first due to travel time. You should have a VIN assigned soon.

There is no way I’ll get a car before I leave. I won’t bother buying in early January - I’d rather wait and see if there’s anything new on the horizon in early 2020. Oh well.

Well I’m exiting this thread. Picked up my X yesterday, black with white interior, with the new front seats. It’s gorgeous, despite all the stories I’ve seen about black paint (swirls, orange peel, dirt in paint), I couldn’t find any flaws anywhere. Rides like a dream, seats super comfortable. For those waiting, hang in there. It’s worth the wait.

Did yours come with the new front seats?

Sorry to hear that. If you do reorder, hopefully the delivery will be quicker when you are ready.

I’m taking delivery of my inventory X tomorrow!! My 10/22 order would not arrive in time to LA. I like the config of the new one better anyway (red on cream with two tone wheels instead of white on black with standard wheels) and it’s almost the same exact price. I just ordered it last night.

Congrats. Glad you got a car you like better but sorry you had to go through all this BS to get it. Pretty frustrating.

I just picked mine up. I saw yours there. It was all mode 3s on the lot except for a few S and X

I ordered a model x on the 31st of October. Just like everyone else I have also been calling in to my Tesla rep and they keep saying I won’t receive it till BEFORE the end of the year. A couple weeks ago I got a text saying my vin is in and I can schedule the pick up so I get very excited but my account wouldn’t let me pick a delivery date so I called in to my rep and they said “it was a mistake and you will still get you car before the end of the year”. Bummed out but no biggie I always assumed I was going to get it by the end of the month anyway. Then Monday the 16th rolls around and I wake up to a text saying my car is ready for pick up. I can either pick it up the 19th or 20th. I chose the 19th (obviously excited again!!) I was staying at my family’s house in San Diego when I woke up to the text. I drove all the way from San Diego to Fremont on the 18th (yesterday) to get a phone call from someone at Tesla saying “hey sorry for the bad new but we are going to have to push your delivery date back” and I said “u gotta be F-ing joking“ since I drove all the way up north and bought a hotel for the night so I can drive back to my family’s place in san Diego after I pick up the car.. I even called my rep the day I confirmed delivery and he said “everything is good to go”. Soooo I drove my ass back to San Diego with no Tesla and my family saying “wow that sucks”. Disappointing thus far.

Did they tell you why or for how long?

They told me they gave me the wrong vin number. But that’s the second time they told me that which is odd. I’m sure it’s true but it’s just weird that they did that twice to me. And they also said my car will still come towards the end of the month

Did you have an MVPA with the VIN they gave you? They had to reorder my car because they built it wrong - added 22" wheels.

Ordered LR 6-seat white/cream 12/8, got a VIN 12/10 for one that just entered production. Wouldn't let me change my order on the 9th (wife decided she wanted blue) and guarantee by 12/31. They won't ship until fully paid, won't do trades (in Texas) because of paperwork round trip times. Delivery was scheduled for the 26th, but they just called and said they will have it ready for pickup tomorrow (but we're out of the country so can't). Rep said they are trying to optimize factoring in funding, paperwork and shipping to get all orders in customers hands by the 31st. Overall the process was a bit of a hassle, but I can't complain because it it was all taken care of while traveling out of the country, and in Texas where it's illegal to sell Teslas direct.
