Does anyone know what sound comes out of the speaker located directly above the passengers left foot?

99.9% of the time....I'm driving so I can't hear what is coming out of that speaker.

I think that speaker is only used to generate wind sounds at high speeds.

I too have never sat in the passenger seat, but my guess is that sound comes out of that speaker.

My service center said that it is for future functionality. It currently does nothing except create some staticky hissing and popping noise for some people.

Edit: Now I can tell why the car seems quiet after it goes to sleep. Stops the hiss.

I think it will be used for the later development when "hypnotic state" software release comes out in the 4th quarter, think of how much money they'll save, "your getting sleepy, very, very sleepy, you do not want FSD, you never wanted FSD, you still want to pay for FSD but you do not want FSD"

that would be amazing. Though I think the speaker is not quite large enough to reproduce a lot of the low frequencies needed to cancel out the rumble of road noise.

That said, it should be trivial to leverage the inverted phase frequencies through the regular speakers + subwoofer. Again, just like regular noise cancelling headphones that can do noise cancellation while also outputting from an aux source.

Some privacy concerns possible, as it means the microphone has to be on to capture the noise to be cancelled.

I think it's a separate PA speaker for self driving rentals to tell people to keep their feet off the back of the seats and not eat in the car.

That speaker deserves an award because it is probably the hardest working component in Model 3s above 50 mph

I think I figured it out!

I had to reboot while driving today (bass cutout) and it sounded like the autopilot engage and disengage sounds came from it.

I think it's a speaker connected direct to the AP computer to give audible alerts in case the sound system fails or is down (such as the case with reboot).
