New FWD switch design

My june 2018 X has the new FWD design button too. The old one definitely is harder to understand.

I'm sure if you ask nicely they'll throw in a free $1.44 toggle switch to keep you happy.

No doubt, but how about the ~$100 labor? Apparently the B-pillar trim has to be removed.

I think the new simple button type switch has been standard for quite some time now. My Feb delivered car has them too and this thread started back in April 2017. I remember the first showroom car I saw last summer still had the old style lever switch, which is not so intuitive to use. Not sure what they were thinking when that was designed, a simple button is the obvious solution. Maybe they were trying to avoid accidental operation by making it a more physical action, but the button location makes accidental operation pretty unlikely anyway.

B-pillar trim can be removed with a spatula in about a minute...it's seriously no big deal. what i did was asked them if they could give me the switches so i could just replaced them myself, and they said nah we'll just do it for free. lol

they just did them for free for me.

the parts are like $20-$30/switch i think but labor is way more.

I complained that my kids were having trouble understanding the switches on my used 2016 X (which they were), and a Ranger came to my work and replaced them with the new push-button style under warranty.

My car came with the ‘new’ ones two years ago this month.

We had a test loaner before that and I never understood the logic of the original ones either. Did you pull down? Up? How about stopping them? Why didn’t they use these new ones in the first place, lol.

Done by Mobile Ranger. Took him about 30 minutes to complete, thanks to a bit of trouble with the driver’s side trim.

Nice. Yes the old switches were horrible. No one knew how to operate them.

April 2017 build. I did it through the app and said it was a safety hazard because my wife and son had both been hit by the doors. Mobile service made the change.
