i'm probably the least tech guy here. but from what i remember installer told me Jason is correct. he also said our roadster is so low to the ground that the highbeams won't blind anyone. :D

maybe might be an option to go back in and place the hid light in the proper location for running lights.

Point of the HID is to see as far down the road as possible for your safety which leads to others safety as well; this is why the height and position of the running light is higher then the others (the most outer bulb).

Then you can do the halo effects while you are back in the housing if you please.

I would love to see the road vision on your lights how the spread is a night when you get the car back.

Interesting; they removed and replaced your default high beam bulbs with the HID? and left the default oem Halogen light? Does the default Halogen light (the most outer light) do anything when your lights are on or they disabled this light; most outer bulb.

The OEM Xenon housing uses a halogen for the inner high beam and outer Bi-Xenon for high/low beam. I replaced the halogen with LED

I have a spare set of pre-halogen front lights. I'm thinking of going high intensity LED, with or without halo lights. Maybe a custom back panel?. Your guy do this Jason?

you can personally contact at DiYmE DesIgnZ (@diyme_designz) on Instagram • 467 photos and videos

he did my lights and can answer any questions you have. Diyme Designz – Custom Automotive Lighting

he has a spare tesla roadster headlight we purchased on ebay so can figure out any brackets or sizes you need.

ok so the img below of the two rings are from another user who did this project; I realized they didn't add the 3rd halo ring because the internal housing has to be shaved or cut in order to accommodate the ring shape to fit; I wish my headlight guy would of told me before he cut into my oem headlights but you can't see it head on or from the top; and the car is so low to the ground you would have to get knee level from the side in order to see the cut.

Also my headlight guy tried to wipe the inside under the lens which caused residue streaks from his towel I cannot remove now.. also slipped and scratched top of one of the plastic housing when tried to drill a hole to secure the halos. Also there is a tiny visible dog hair when he sealed up the lens.

So all in all would I advise someone to attempt this? I don't know. if he would of told me he had to cut the housing in order for the 3rd ring to fit I probably would have refused and project would have not been completed; which is why he probably kept his mouth shut and did it anyway.

His reply was "You have to allow imperfections to be part of life, there is no such thing as a perfect build" which I kinda agree; I was planing on getting a layer of tint which would darken just a tiny tiny bit; maybe 80% or 70% so hopefully that will cover up the imperfections in the build.

Us roadster owners can see all the imperfections in our cars! But to someone else it looks flawless. The cut doesn't look bad Jason. The streak however would bug me though. He can't go back and remove the lens and clean off the residue? I'm assuming probably not that simple. And then you'll risk damaging other parts or areas.

correct, I spoke to a auto headlight restoration specialist and he said leave it; going back in would cause more issues, humidity, cracks, and not 100% it would even come out.

My only option is to go back in; and paint the internal housing a Matte black; which we originally had the idea of doing before the install but wanted to keep the oem look. But if we do that I still have to figure out how to refinish the lenses.

I do have a spare lens here from the spare headlight received from ebay which is in really bad shape; perhaps I can attempt sanding this down with 400-1000 grit and see how it comes out.

But my headlight guy said leave it also; putting the 80% or barley tint just to darken a tiny bit would cover it up, so will attempt that first.

The streak or imperfections are visible only if you hold a flashlight up to it.

I’m an Orthopaedic Surgeon. I see all defects. In my car, on my patient’s MRI’s, when looking at X-rays of surgeries.

All surgeons are that way, and all surgeons realize that the more you do things over and over in the operating room, the more you take something decent and make it worse.

We have an expression... “The Enemy of Good is Better.”

Leave it alone my friend. You’re talking about gilding a lily.

Best,

T

Installed the headlights; just have to screw the bolts underneath for proper alignment but just wanted to test. Crossing my fingers as I turned the switch and no error codes no nothing; everything worked perfect! Overall I am satisfied; hopefully I will really enjoy these.

I go through all the effects and end with the video with the hazards. The driver side high beams are functioning on the new HID; It's the way the camera is angled gets more of the passenger side.

The sequencers were going really fast in last video; I slowed them down a little. Still have an issue with the third halo cutting out to quickly on the effect; I'll figure it out later. I was just happy the lights actually worked.

Cool project!

I consider to do the same save the HID’s which I have already.

hesitant about cutting but I really like the result.

now I have to find the charcoal diffusers, does anyone have a tip?

also need to find the controller which makes the sequence effects, any ideas?

thanks

I noticed when I first got the car the bushings were disintegrated; I got the suspensions out and going to get them rebuilt with Polyurethane bushings so will last duration life of the vehicle; I advise everyone to check their bushings as I'm sure they are not there any more.

The Brake fluid leak was when we took the calipers out; the line wasn't tightened enough; I woke up the next morning and cleaned everything up and tightened it down so it won't leak and topped off the brake fluid, I'm good :)

got the calipers back; they came out ok I guess; he nicked the rubber piece on the right caliper and missed some clear coat on the back caliper but once installed on the car they should look ok. Overall looks a lot better than what I had.

Let me know your thoughts!

Thanks for the heads up Jason! I'll ask Pete @racevpr and @petergrub since my car is currently at their shop.

Congrats! I have the same model, year, and color scheme (except mine has the full dark grey interior). I only have about 17,000 miles on mine. I have put in for the 3.0 battery upgrade but it has been almost 2 years and I have not been contacted yet, so ??? Has anyone heard anything further about the upgrade? Thank you.

Worth watching this thread regarding the 3.0 upgrade.
