Parking ticket cancelled with dashcam

Our local Tesco decided that I’d parked my MS there for 7 hours straight, in violation of their 2 hour limit. For some reason two visits on the same day were logged as one very long visit, their reg number camera system is obviously not amazing.

Appealed it and sent a screen grab together with date and time stamp information arguing that the car was obviously somewhere else when it was alleged to have been in their car park for 7 hours.

They cancelled the ticket.

I suppose TeslaFi et al can do the same.

I hate these car parks with minimum return period. Local shops has no return within 4 hours. So If I get home and have forgotten something, I can't go back to sort.
Don't get me started. Local high street businesses are struggling to stay afloat, yet the local authorities make parking increasingly difficult and a headache doing nothing to actually help the shops...

In case it may help someone else, I've found that the ANPR systems at car parks consistently misread some VRNs. Often the system will read mine incorrectly on the way in, and read it incorrectly, but differently on the way out, which is fine for places with no parking charge, like supermarkets, but a real PITA where you pay to get out, as the damned barrier won't lift.

Last time I parked at Southampton airport, I tried to pre-empt this (I know their system always, without fail, misreads the numberplate). That failed miserably, as they have no way of sorting the problem out until you're sat at the barrier, blocking others from getting out.

The problem seems to be with having a non-standard VRN (two letters plus four digits in my case), but it does seem to highlight failings in ANPR in general. I did win a parking charge battle with Parking Eye a few years ago, thanks to having dash cam footage showing I'd left the car park well before the 12 hours they alleged I'd been there. Took nearly a year to resolve, though, so well done in getting Tesco to respond so quickly!

My dash cam footage doesn't include a date and time stamp. Do you mean you used the file creation date or did I miss a way of adding an actual time stamp to the video footage? I have only recently looked at dash cam footage and was surprised that the time and speed wasn't on screen.

I just took a still from a video clip next to its file name which is a composite of the date and time. Not the most forensically sound method but it would have suggested to them that if they didn't accept that as evidence then I would offer the video files to an independent specialist to validate them, so it would have just been easier to cancel because life's too short to fight for something you won't win.

I didn't consider that TeslaFi could have proven location also. Good shout.

i did something similar in Carmel California using a TeslaFi screen print out showing my car had gone other places in between two visits to a store there. as luck would have it, the roamiing ticket gestapo marked my tires with a chalk marker and when I came back 2 hours later to pick up a product at the store, she thought I had been there the whole time.

Car Chalking is constituted an unreasonable search under the Fourth Amendment by a recent court case in Michigan. As far as I understand they can't do this anywhere in the United States now.

Anyone know how you can change the time zone on the date stamp on the video clips? Mine always comes as US time which is a bit odd sitting in the UK, and would make it harder to use the clips as defence. The time on the car itself is right.
