Price adjustment before VIN assignment?

I've been trying to get the price of my February Model Y order adjusted since the price reduction last month. I say "trying" here because there's something like a week latency between reaching out to my advisor and hearing back, but what I've pieced together so far is that I can't get a price adjustment until a VIN is assigned and the reduction will not happen automatically. So if the price goes up between now and VIN assignment, or if I do nothing, I pay the higher price.

I saw tons of people have the prices of their orders adjusted, many of them it looks like before VIN assignment. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to talk to someone else?

Given I'm told I'm still 4-6 weeks out from delivery, I'm tempted to just cancel and re-order in case prices go up end-of-quarter. Any suggestions?

All I had to do was click the EDIT button and then save the order. The price reduction was applied then. I didn't have a VIN then on 7/11 and I still don't today.

I just changed the color from white to another color via the EDIT function and saved the change... that got me the new price. Don't have a VIN either.

I wonder if the edit/save process will mess up my place in line. It seems like they would have suggested that if it didn't, as it requires zero effort on their part.

At this point place in line might not matter. From what I can tell Tesla will try to deliver all existing orders by the end on Sept. Being in CA we are probably at the tail end of the line anyway.
